General Silver Dollar City Talk / Ride Station Cameras
« on: July 18, 2023, 10:38:10 AM »
Has anyone noticed the new security cameras that are in the ride stations? When the train is in the station they have bright white lights that turn on and after the train has left the station, the lights turn off. I noticed it a while ago in WildFire but noticed one in Fire in the Hole on our last trip. I assume that it is a new safety/insurance thing.

Announcement will be on 8.14.23 according to their social posts today.

8/16 is national roller coaster day, and it's the day that parks have chosen to make announcements in the past few years. I believe they had the big media reveal for Time Traveler on NRCD back in 2017.

Thanks for the explanation!

They also posted a graphic to social that says volunteers needed.

I would assume there will be an announcement email sign up page posted soon.

There is a date of 8.16 floating around, but not sure where it came from.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC Logo
« on: June 14, 2023, 09:49:19 AM »
They made it "Facebook official" this morning. I posted a comment on how the bottom limb was facing the wrong direction on the new logo. My comment was swiftly silenced by the person who runs their social media. I am not sure if changing the orientation of the bottom limb was an oversight, or perhaps an artistic choice. Either way, I think the new logo is... serviceable.  ;)

According to their multiple responses to it, it was artistic.

the branch directions are meant to signify looking ahead to our future while looking back at our past simultaneously. There’s no top or bottom on the log.

Did you try logging in to your account on the website to see if it shows there?

They have been given authorization to reopen the train.
Sounds like they won’t be using that set of cars though.

*Edit to add that other news stories that came out after this stated that it was a single defect with one part and that part was replaced.

“ The incident happened around 4 p.m. Officials say the front wheels of car three on the train went off the track by about two inches. It caused cars two and three to separate. Park officials say new safety protocols worked as designed, stopping the train. It also kept all of the remaining cars upright.”

They removed a post in their Facebook group. There was rampant speculation on the post and was just spreading rumors.

Not sure if it's possible to add to the forum homepage, but the list of recent posts that was on the homepage made it easy to quickly see new posts.

*I did just notice the "Show unread posts since last visit" up at the top right. That is helpful to know about.

Thanks for hosting the forums!

Dollywood Discussion / Re: Dollywood first time

I believe that it is now one discounted ticket per season pass. In the past, I think you could purchase 2 discounted tickets per pass. I would call and ask and then I would even ask at the actual ticket booth when you are purchasing them; you never know if they would go ahead and give you another at the discount.

Are you sure that wasn’t for ones NOT left in the cubbies?

Honestly, I’ve kept my iPhone and Apple Watch on and with me on every coaster since the crash detection feature came out and have never had it false call. I think the issue is greatly exaggerated.

I actually feel like the spinning and especially the abruptness of the stop at the bottom of the slide have significantly improved since opening. It really isn’t that bad anymore.

The timing lines up with the USA Today poll result announcement too much for it really to be anything else. However, I would expect them to tease future announcements on Friday.

Track in view from Fireman’s Landing.
They are also pouring more concrete in the plaza area outside the ride entrance.

It would really help if they would clean these windows. 🤣

This is the view of the area where a tree blew over. I would expect the fencing to be extended up now that the hvac units are clearly visible from the square.
