Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2020 Project(s) and Park Developments
« on: April 26, 2019, 02:53:15 PM »
SDC applied for some new trade marks.  Some of these may be the name of the new ride "Lost Caverns", Mystic River Falls" or "Pearl's Float Trip".  Of course, it might just stay Lost River of the Ozarks.

The market cap for Six Flags is  ~4.5B.  Unless they are buying the whole corporation, the bid price is not correct.  Also there is no significant movement of the shares that would reflect even a rumor.

It would be interesting if SDC would commit to making the best dark ride ever.  They have made "the best" commitment with the last few roller coasters.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure if SDC would even  be interested in keeping the Baldknobbers.  I would love it, but combining hooded vigilante characters burning a town with family fun is a bit tough in the 21st century.

Pintrader,  a couple of great pics... thanks
These are great.

Thank you...glad you like them!

Here is another slide/picture from circa 1970.   Looks like it was took on Main Street with the church to his right.  Don't know this man, but he looks like my kind of guy.  Hamming it up for the camera.....pretty funny.

Is that Carrie Nation in the background with the sign?

So after some of you have had a chance to ride and reflect.  What is the consensus of the TT?  Is it more of a family ride, or an extreme ride, or just a cool roller coaster?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2017 Trip Reports
« on: September 18, 2017, 06:06:14 PM »
Had a nice visit on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The kids got to go on all the rides and a niece got to see SDC for the first time.  It is so much fun seeing the park through others eyes.  The park looked very nice.  On Saturday the management was walking the park.  I like the fact the SDC "suits" actually just wear polo's.  On Sunday there was a film crew shooting B-footage for an upcoming episode of a cooking/travel show.  The film crew told us who it was, but I don't know if that constitutes public knowledge for SDCfans.  I think everyone would recognize who it was.  It doesn't matter too much on Wednesday they start to film the chef, and everyone can find out then.

Nice to see such a positive review!  We often get caught up on what SDC can do better, and not mention when they get almost everything correct.  Nice review.

Random Talk / Re: Eclipse.........

I live in COMO and the town doesn't seem much (if any) worse than a football weekend when we have a good year.  The weather isn't perfect so that definitely reduced the number of people.  As for ""why" the excitement over the total eclipse, it is one of those "if you have to ask" type of things.  I have had the opportunity to see one, and it was absolutely one of the best memories I have.

Is the park as clean as it looks in your photos?

From a practical perspective the answer is no (expense, bad PR, maintenance nightmare...)  This will never happen.   The purely academic answer is, it could be done.  The Missouri cave laws protect the owner from damages and trespassing, and prohibit damaging the water system that the cave is a part of.  If SDC could get permission from the owners to damage the cave, and the operation of the coaster did not damage the water system, it would not violate the Missouri cavelaws.  The big issue are the laws regarding the Federal endangered species act.  Since Marvel cave does contain these species, the impact of the coaster would need to be dealt with.  There are many cases in which construction and use has occurred in environments that contained endangered species (none to my knowledge involving a coaster in a cave), but the process is incredibly expensive.  So the answer to the question is no, the coaster will not be in Marvel cave.

I think this is excellent for the area.  As for its success I'm pretty sure that the short term will be fine (10 yr).  The longer term is when the issue of the younger generation will come into play.  Golf courses are incredibly labor and materials expensive to maintain.  As for what is affordable, well that is very subjective.  I live in Columbia MO.  To play a Saturday at the municipal or university course it is $25 for 18 w/o cart.  Eagle Knoll is a private owned but available to the public at about $45 for 18 with cart.  Like anything else discounts abound.  All of these courses are nice, but they do not have the full country club/ resort facilities.  We do have some very nice private clubs, the courses are nice, the people are nice, the pool is nice, the bar is nice, the clubhouse is nice and the price is "if you have to ask..."  I guess if I liked golf I could justify $25 week for my hobby. I couldn't justify country club dues and country club fees every week.

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Silver Dollar City Merchandise
« on: April 09, 2017, 06:18:41 PM »
I know this is an old thread, but one of my favorite SDC merchandise is a "wanted poster" from the print shop.  These were very cool.  You could pick the name and watch them print.  They were inexpensive and an unique souvenir than you couldn't get anywhere else.   Some of the letter presses are rusting outside the photo shop, there is one inside, but I doubt it will ever run again :(

SDC Memories/ Park History / sheriff pin
« on: April 09, 2017, 06:13:38 PM »
Did the sheriff pin alway say Silver Dollar City or SDC?  I am referring to the 1970's or very early 1980's.  I have a few pins that are old but they could have come from anyplace.  Thanks
