Dollywood Discussion / Re: Dollywood Theming
« on: July 18, 2010, 07:14:54 PM »
The trolley system is nice in Pigeon Forge.  Parking aside, I will say the tram service is much, much better at Dollywood.  We were there at Thanksgiving last year (huge crowds on park) and they had tram after tram lined up waiting to get people back to their cars. Even though the line was long, you kept moving and the wait for a ride was hardly noticable. It was the same thing when we arrived at DW for park opening, there were trams all over the place getting people in the park.  With their loop complete back by Adventure Mountain, they can sure spread a lot of people out around the park.  I think it would be great if Dollywood could get a Dickens' Christmas Carol production of their own.  In my opinion, that would definitely make Dollywood's selection of Christmas shows better than SDC's.  Although, after seeing all Dollywood's holiday shows last year I already believe that to be the case.

My family spends a lot of time at both Dollywood and SDC and we love them both. They both have great qualities that get you in the mindset that nothing else matters while you are on park.  All your cares and worries seem to disappear for awhile.  That's what is important for me...some true relaxation and enjoyment. We used to get the Dollywood Gold Pass that also got you in free to SDC and Whitewater.  That was a great value.  I wish HFE would come up with some kind of super pass that gets you in to all their parks.  We would still go to SDC and Dollywood but would go to Whitewater more often and would probably stop at Wild Adventures on our way to Florida. I can't fault Dollywood's theming.  I think they do a great job with the park. On a side note, I think I read where this is the last year for Babes in Toyland during Christmas at Dollywood. Could Babes and Dickens' Christmas Carol be switching parks in 2011 or might Dollywood just be coming up with something different?

Branson Talk / Re: SDC's Wilderness Campground

When I was a kid (many years ago in the late 70's and early 80's) we camped there quite a bit. We always had a great time as everything was clean and kept up nicely.  As others have mentioned, we always had a great time going across the street to the waterslide. That was always one of the highlights of our trips. The only drawback was if you got stuck with a campsite right by the highway.

To me, Country Fair just has a better feel to it. I can't put my finger on it I just feel more at ease there than I do in the Grand Expo.

My kid's really like the Springhouse. They want to eat there each time we are at the City. I always enjoy the Lumbercamp.  It's too bad they don't have a place that combines a meal with some type of show.  That could be a lot of fun. I know in the fall you can eat in the Red Gold Hall and watch some entertainment but I was thinking of something a little more cozy.

That's good to hear about Powederkeg.  But their closure announcement for it only mentioned December and not November.

WW needs much more than castoffs from other parks to make it more appealing.  It needs a major makeover.  We didn't bother to go there this summer because all of their slides are run of the mill 80's and 90's type attractions.  They need to start upgrading and catch up to the attractions that other waterparks are offering. WW is falling far behind.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2011 Project

I've always thought a waterpark with some "dry" rides mixed in would be a great idea.  There certainly are a lot of possibilities. How many times would you love to ride a lost river or watertoboggan type ride but don't want to get completely drenched with your clothes on? I know the older I get the less appealing wet, smelly clothes are.  But if I were in my swimming trunks I would love it. The splash battle ride would be perfect in a water park--you would certainly have a lot more people (read adults) who would like to ride. Move the watertoboggan ride from SDC to CC.  You've got Roaring Falls and Shoot the Chutes already. Build a huge wavepool with large waves, water features and plenty of lounging and sunning area.  Put up a water coaster and some really great waterslides and a funnel or bowl type ride.  Add a lazy river and kids area to some of the leftover rides at CC and you've got quite a place.  You could keep the games and restaurants at CC and move the best stuff over from WW.  It really wouldn't take a mega huge investment to make that a fun place.

I guess I can (barely) see only running Powderkeg on Saturdays in December while school is in session, but during the school holidays when more kids are at SDC they need to have it running.  Using their attendance argument, they should probably shut down Wildfire too.  I don't see a tremendous amount of seasoned citizens on that ride either.  Then they could argue the Barn Swing and Thunderation ought to be closed.  I hope the Powderkeg closing is not a trial balloon to see what reaction SDC gets before making other closures. Oh the slippery slope......

Just curious how many trains they'll have running today?  Didn't know if they had the second train repaired or not.

My name is easy to figure out. I love the Powderkeg and its airtime. I think it is a wonderful coaster!

"Hey, that area is restricted!"........."You're too close to that nitro."

Well, you guys know the rest.
