Branson Talk / Re: The Haygoods-
« on: March 30, 2018, 01:56:29 PM »
Outside of the obvious errors (They rarely perform at SDC anymore, the park isn't in a cave, and I'm dubious on the claim that they are the most popular show- that would depend on how you measure it)...

It's very cool that they are mentioned.  We've really enjoyed the show, but there are a few shows that I would put right up alongside them as being just as good, and just as popular.

But the writer's credibility is completely destroyed when they argue that the USS Midway Museum is the most popular attraction in California (been there, it's cool, but it's not Disneyland) and that Speedboat Sightseeing of Miami is the most popular attraction in Florida.  Ummm, yeah.  Maybe really cool attractions that are often missed?  But I can't even see those being the most highly rated on Trip Advisor, let alone the "most popular"

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: SDC V Dollywood
« on: March 30, 2018, 01:50:41 PM »
We absolutely loved Dollywood.  While there are similarities, there are also a number of differences.  It is a larger park, has more rides and coasters, and has been expanding faster than SDC the last decade or so.  If you're into doing everything, it can easily be a two day visit.   Then you add in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and it's easily a full vacation.

You can see my videos, thoughts, and reviews from our visit last summer on my channel.

It also says the park didn't expect the restraints to be so restrictive, so there might be some adjustments done in the future. It's fun to listen to if you want more opinions and firsthand experiences about the ride.

I'm guessing by restrictive that they mean the passenger size restrictions?  As I found them very comfortable and free and easy to move around in, while also being firmly kept in your seat and secured.  one of the most comfortable coasters I've found as far as that goes.

I did see some people have to take the walk of shame, but they were people that I doubt would have fit on any other coaster in the park either- except maybe Wildfire's "big boy" seats.  I didn't see anyone have to walk that should have been surprised, but my experience has been limited.

Since the coaster doesn't have a traditional mid-brake run and is relatively short....I would assume they would never have 3 trains on it at the same time?  Do they even have three trains?

they most certainly have 3 trains.  They ran 3 trains the entire time of the media day/ employee rides event on Tuesday.  And they ran 3 trains all today when they were operating.  I was actually pretty impressed at how fast the line was moving with all three operating.  They were pushing it through pretty decent.  Actually had the line down to about 20 minutes for a good portion of the afternoon today, with a crowd I was told was around 7000.

It was "Turn Back Time" by Cher. I was absolutely loving hearing these covers; I heard "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty near the end of the stream on SDC's FB page.

Far as I could hear, the covers I heard were all instrumentals.

heard today: Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper), and there was another one about Falling as well.  The name is slipping my mind.

My son was sure he heard Smoke on the Water.

I thought someone said it was going to be 41 degeees at midnight. It’s 7am and it’s 29 degrees. You still think TT will open at 9:30am.

Looks like closer to 11am for you.  Stay warm and toasty inside Red Gold.  They're supposed to walk you down when it's ready and you'll still be the first ones on the coaster today if you stick it out.

Does the ride unload people before it reaches the station? I've seen a couple of videos that make it look like that, like the live stream of the first train. Will this always be the case, or is it just for today?

it is definitely set up to do that, with a separate unload area.  But they didn't always unload there.  I suspect that may vary due to staffing levels, number of trains operating, crowd levels, etc.

I'm still hoping for a story.  I know we've seen the background in the reveal videos, but it doesn't seem to be intact in today's videos.

Brad gives the background "story" in the dedication today.  You can see it in my online stream from earlier today at https://youtu.be/kM2lr9PoDu0 just after the 15 minute mark.  I'm uploading my review, onride video, etc right now, which only has a clip from that.  I'm debating whether or not to upload my higher quality version of the dedication or not.

Admittedly, there isn't much that conveys the story in the station or on the ride itself, other than some clocks around the station.

I'm rendering my video of the day right now.  it includes a walk through of the queue, on ride and off ride footage, a look at the merch and the store, and a walk through of the area so you can see the changes.  Give it 2 hours (hopefully less) to have it online.  I'll post a link here as soon as it is.

I'm also going to upload all of the photos I took today. They aren't in the video.  I'll have that link in 30-60 minutes for you.

It's a great ride.  I wonder if the tunnels and things were ever in teh actual plans or not. But the truth is, with the rotation, you wouldn't have even really noticed stuff on the ground or around the ride.  Tunnels, maybe a bit, but the rest goes by very quickly and at ever changing angles.

Just received an invitation to Time Traveler's grand opening and media day on Tuesday, March 13th.  Super excited to be able to be there. I will be doing a live feed from there so you can join in the opening and see all of the fun, as well as putting together a video later talking more about the ride.  Livestream from the event will probably be around 11am local time (noon Eastern, 9am Pacific).  I don't know that I'll be able to do any questions/ answers this time around, but we'll see how it works out.  Very excited to be a part of it.

I think it’s time for SDC to take the next step and add a Flying Theatre.  This would go over well with park guests and could be enjoyed by a wider range of guests than the typical ride addition

https://youtu.be/Zs-fO9--u8w

wonder what the budget would be on something like that, and if it would be in a price range that SDC would even consider.

I have thought they were long overdue for a "theater" ride- whether a "4d" movie, a motion simulator, or something along those lines that the family can enjoy.  it would seem like a rather obvious addition at this point, especially with it being indoors, and they desperately need another indoor attraction that doesn't shut down for weather, and something the whole entire family can do together.

lol...

Will TT be open next week?

Seeing as they are offering first rides in the contest on the Tuesday before opening day, and I believe that's when their media day is as well, I'd say it's looking very good for it to be open next week.

Other Parks / Re: Manby out at SeaWorld
« on: March 04, 2018, 03:13:07 PM »
Manby was an idiot to kill the orca breeding program.  I know he thought that that was the only issue SeaWorld had at the time but all it did was alienate the park loyalists.  At this point they might as well just go full marine zoological park with thrill rides because they’ve completely ruined the show side - which is why people came to the park in the first place.  Yeah Yeah “animal rights and stuff” - give it a rest.  Until you go completely vegan don’t even start.

Have to agree with you.  I never understood why Sea World never took a bold loud stand on all of the inaccuracies and plain stupidity that was in Blackfish. instead they seemed to quietly roll over and just take it, which I always thought was a huge mistake.  It could have been easily refuted, and it wasn't.

And under Manby the parks have lost focus on what they were, or are, or are becoming.  They really seem almost adrift and lost, which is sad as they are wonderful parks.

There were a lot of mixed feelings about him at SDC as well.  Some who knew him really liked him, but as far as company leadership there was a lot of disagreement with a number of things he did and/or oversaw.

In any case, I'm sure he'll land somewhere soon.
