What's it like after Christmas? Trying to decide if I want to treat a couple of out of towners.

Expect it to be very very busy

Our schedule is working out where Friday is likely our only day to go in the next week and a half.  I'm hoping it's not to crowded, but not real optimistic with it starting off the holiday week.

In fairness, if you've been on both, then #2 behind Steel Vengeance is not a bad place to be.  :-)

Pigeon Forge and Branson both listed

Well that just rolled my stomach and turned it sour.  Yuck on so many levels.

It certainly won't be on my list of places I'll want to see.

I have never actually been to his show. I have sort of wanted to just because I have always known about it but never gone sort of deal.

several years ago i received some comp tickets, went to the show...
LOL..
decided I paid too much for tickets, havent been back

We felt about the same when we went with comp tickets. Actually left at intermission.

But the bathrooms were really cool to see.

It sure enough looks like that location to me.  The fence to the right even fits the railroad crossing location.  Are you certain of the date?

I don't think so.  I think Pintrader may have it right.  The angle of the porch and corner of the building is off, and the fence isn't right.  That would allow people to sneak into the corner right up next to the tracks, though it's possible I guess since there is a little "booth" for the guard/ prisoner to hide in a bit in the case of not so nice weather.

But if it was that location, there should be at least a glimpse of the tracks behind it, and I don't see that.  It does look more like the building up near the corkscrew hill and it's entrance.

 :o :o :o :o
Have to admit, that one caught me by surprise.  We really liked that theater.  The atrium was a really neat atmosphere- and they did have the restaurants and eating available in it all day long.  Ate there a couple of times.  That's really to bad.
Are all of the acts going to Americana?  Any ideas about Buckets and Boards?  That's such a step down in the quality of the theater.

Not sure what Dolly will do, but there's no way the acrobats were going to be able to stay.  It was a fun, neat show, but they had absolutely no crowds.  Not a chance they were able to cover their bills with the empty theaters they had, so I'm not surprised at all that it sold again.
It will be interesting to see what happens.  I surprised there hasn't been something much more visible and successful there in the last few years, as it seems a pretty high profile location.

At this point it looks like it's not going be a worry at all.  They've reduced the numbers to a trace to up to an inch, which is nothing that will slow the park down.

I've worked when there was 3 inches of snow on the ground in the park, so this little bit isnt' going to phase them.

As always, keep an eye on the radar and don't expect anything to stay the same.  Watch Saturday turn out to be a perfect day to visit SDC.

This is almost starting to look prophetic.  Now they're talking a trace to an inch of snow.  It may well turn out to be a great day to visit the park

It's Missouri- it's going to be changing up until it starts.  2 days ago we were looking at up to a foot of snow in Northern Stone County.  Now it's dropped to maybe an inch while Branson could have 3-6 inches.  However that line has moved a lot already and that can easily change again.  The storm that is bringing it is just moving in off the coast of California, so it's still a ways about and things can change a lot as far as who gets what.

I wonder what the crowd will be like Friday and Saturday/Sunday?  If they do get 4-6" will they just shut the park down or keep it open?  Might be interesting to visit with 4-6" of snow.

Depends on when it starts snowing, how much and how certain they are that more is on the way.  I've worked when they closed entirely because it was snowing, and also worked when it was snowing in the park at an inch an hour and we kept right on running. Made for an "interesting" drive home for those of us that live a little distance away.

They'll make what they think is the best decision based on what's known.  and around here that can change within a few hours.

Random Talk / How did everyone fare through the storms last night?
« on: December 01, 2018, 10:09:56 AM »
Quite a lot of "fun" with that storm front that rolled through last night.  We were awake and in the bathtub at 1am taking shelter, but our little pocket of the Ozarks came through it looks like without a scratch.
I noticed that Branson town tree is flat, and the sign by WalMart/ Best Buy north of town is down.  The town where my wife teaches, Aurora, took a hit, with damage and a fatality at the hotel there.  Roads between us and them are closed because of damage, downed trees, and power lines on the road.

Not being negative, but it would take some real money and designs to make this work..  As we all know,  it just takes MONEY!!  it could be done..

yep, agreed.  It could be done if there was money.  Then the issues become who's paying the money?  SDC?  Branson?  The county? some mix of them?

Something needs to be done, but I don't think anyone is in any hurry to even acknowledge there is a problem there.  In particular because, for the most part, it's only a handful of days a year as opposed to a consistent problem most days the park is open.

Construction/Rumors / Re: Retire the Old Tree ! I said it, discuss....
« on: November 30, 2018, 05:58:49 PM »
Been agreed on the tree for a few years now.  Also wish they would turn the volume on it down.  Used to be real annoying when we were in the woods on the train listening to grandpa and all of a sudden you'd hear the tree go.  To loud and really showing it's age now.  I'd imagine it should be coming up soon for a replacement, but a lot of that will be up to the penny pinchers trying to be convinced it's worth the expenditure.

The train could use some help too. There is only one light tunnel this year. Some houses have more lights than you go past on the train. I would love to see a fully synchronized display that goes with the music on the train. Obviously not the full ride, but maybe a song or two when you are back in the woods.

The train has only had one light tunnel for years, since well before I started there in 2012- right by where moonshine stump is.  Unless you're also counting the regular tunnel, which may or may not have lights depending on how busy the train engineers were in putting lights and decor on the engines and passenger cars.  Those are often hidden by the smoke from the engine so putting lights in the regular tunnel was often a lower priority.

And as long as the engines are manually driven (which these always will be) there's not going to be any way to synchronize lights off the train with a music track on the train.  To many variables with changes in speed/ timing as it goes around the track- even from engineer to engineer and affected by other things.

The music on the train is played on an mp3 player and each song is manually started by the conductor in back with them narrating while they are pausing/ switching tracks/ making sure it's playing the right one.  And we would often have to adjust the songs ourselves depending on how fast we were moving- cutting a song short or letting it play long, depending on how fast we were going, maybe fading another out to introduce grandpa if we were coming in quick, or if the song ended early then improvising a loonnnngggg intro to grandpa.  :-)

Since they've never been willing to spend the money to allow the robbers/ grandpa's mics be fed into the train sound system, they're not going to do a synchronized light display off train either.

But I certainly would like to see more lights out there.  Always liked the lights.
