I値l be there opening day with granddaughters. This past season we went the first day, the last day, and 14 times in between. A pleasant, wholesome place to take family. Since 3 of them have military dads, we make a point to see the opening ceremony.

Going in the morning with four granddaughters. I expect a big crowd, but as long as we ride a few rides, eat a buffet, and see the parade, we値l be good. Oh, and certainly see Santa with the 5 year old!

I知 glad to hear that crowds were reasonable. I値l be there in the morning with a gaggle of granddaughters  for our twelfth trip of the season. As long as we get apple turnovers, ride rides, and dine in the mine, all is well in our worlx

Went yesterday with my granddaughters 4,9, & 10.  We like our opening day tradition.  I picked them up early enough to get to see the season opening ceremony.  Unfortunately the computer system messed up the military comp ticket for the 10 year old.  Lady at the gate realized the ticket was for next September.  Turned around and went back to ticket booth.  No luck there, so off to guest relations.  After no luck on the computer, they just issued a generic comp ticket.  By then opening ceremony was over.  Oh, well, hard to gripe about military kids getting in free.
The city looked great!  Everything was clean, and all workers were friendly and enthusiastic.  As was previously mentioned, TNT is really getting rough.  My 66 year old neck does not like the tunnel.  Of course, the girls had us ride it twice.
Rode the train, and the conductor and robbers put on a great show.  Fire in the hole had music going, and is just a good, reliably fun dark ride.  The 4 year old and I rode it repeatedly.
We ate in the Mine, and the meal was great.  With season pass discount, got out for a little over 40 dollars for the four of us.  As someone who has paid that much for one buffet at Disney, I felt we certainly got our money's worth.  Our server Diane was great.
All in all, another great trip to the City.

I知 going with three granddaughters, 4,9, and 10. It痴 a spring break tradition. They talk about it on each subsequent trip

I took two granddaughters, 3 & 8, to SDC yesterday (Sunday).  What a great day to go!  On the way down from Springfield there was a solid line of traffic leaving Branson and headed north in the rain.
When we got to the parking lot at about 9:15, we used my season pass parking and joined about 20 cars in the preferred parking.  We had to go through ticketing because the 8 year old had lost her military ID and couldn't get the complimentary ticket.
Upon going into the park, the rain continued for a short while, and then quit.  All the rides that appealed to a 3 and 8 were walk-ons.  The train was about 1/3 full, and Thunderation, while running one train, could be ridden as fast as we could walk back around the entrance.  The only disappointment was the Flooded Mine, which was in a sad state.  The gags didn't work when shot, and it was quiet all the way through.  Sad when children could stay on to ride again, and choose not to.
Aside from the FM, the park was in really good shape.  Everything was clean, and without exception the workers were welcoming and friendly.  As someone who has gone to SDC for 55 years, it's just a pleasure to visit.

I'm taking my granddaughters down for opening day.  Anybody have experience on how crowded it will be?

Construction/Rumors / Re: Ride Survey 09.11.17

I took the survey yesterday and suggested they use the term "revolve" rather than spin. If you watch the simulation, it doesn't spin like Primeval Whirl

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Heroes month at SDC -- free admission

This is a great thing.  Something that doesn't get discussed a lot is that military dependents get in free when with a military parent or season pass holder.  As a grandparent of three army girls with an away dad, this is great!  I took two of them on Sunday, and as always it was about a two minute deal to get their passes at the ticket window.  Showed their military IDs, my season pass, and the tickets were printed out.  A very meaningful thing for SDC to do year-round for military children.  Many thanks to the Herschend family!

I took two of my granddaughters (6 and 10) last Saturday (April 2). I was a little apprehensive since it was Young Christians Weekend.  We arrived at 9:30 (someone thought the park opened at 10).  We had to park in one of the lower lots across the street.  Lots were full of church buses and vans, with crowds going to the gate.
We had a blast.  My girls are Army girls and get free admittance.  It took about 5 minutes to get their tickets, and about 10 minutes to go through the non-bag gate line.   Once inside everything went smoothly.  A few observations:
1.  Lots of fresh paint over the off season.  The train and fireman's landing sparkled.
2.  If you have to be in a crowd, go Young Christian's Weekend.  The kids are mannerly, and don't clog up the little  kids rides.
3.  Food in the Mine is as good as always.
4.  McHaffie's homestead and farm are great for kids

All in all, a great day with the girls.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Coaster Christmas 2015
« on: December 03, 2015, 04:36:28 PM »
My daughter (24) and I (63, old guy) went to Coaster Christmas.  It was snowing as we left Springfield and that made me question the wisdom of the trip.  We had a great time.  There was a group of probably 100 coaster enthusiasts gathered, and SDC had great presenters for talks about SDC, Six Flags, Worlds of Fun, and Schlitterbahn,  We learned of new things coming up.  The other guests were quite knowledgable about coasters, their makers, their advantages, etc.  My daughter and I just like to ride them

It was great to be in the park hours before opening.  We got great photos of the decorations.  The highlight for me was riding FITH with the lights on, and then going on a backstage tour of the ride.  All the staff were very friendly and eager to share

I worked at SDC in 76 and 77, and have gone there since about 59 or 60. Even though I take grandchildren to Disneyworld twice a year, Silver Dollar City is still home.  We'll be back to have lunch with Santa, and enjoy OTC.

As a grandfather to Army girls, I must say that SDC giving free admission to military children is simply pure class. Nice to know that people care.
