Are you sure it's not the old Table Rock Dam?  I live not too far from the dam on Lake Norfork in AR and the dam road looks very similar except it says Norfork on the tower.

Other Parks / Re: dogpatch usa
« on: December 23, 2010, 05:12:04 PM »
There was an article in Arkansas Democrat Gazette recently about a judgment in a Dogpatch lawsuit that had been reinstated.  Kid on ATV was trespassing and riding through the property.  Hit a wire at the neck level, crushed his larynx, other problems.  The trespassing charge apparently didn't mitigate the danger/neglect charge of the condition of the property.  At least that's what I understood from the article.  In the old Marble Falls Convention area above Dogpatch, the campground has been reopened (sort of -- still very rugged) and there are bikers conventions up there in the old convention center.  The homes that are up at the top have seen better days but folks are still living in them.  We were last up there about 1 1/2 years ago.

Branson Talk / Re: What's new for Branson in 2011?

New for Branson in 2011 is an ice skating rink at Town Square at the Landing.  Starts New Year's Day.  During the week it's 3 -8 and on the weekends noon - 8.  Skate rentals will be available.  The article on the Hometown Radio website didn't say how long it would last.  I guess as long as it's cold enough for ice....

Originally the Wild West show was going to open in 2009, then 2010.  Not sure if there is still a website but I did contact the company at one time via email and got a response that the entire project was on hold due to the economy.  The land on Gretna may be back up for sale.

I received an email today about Showboat cruises -- nothing about reduced prices.

« on: December 22, 2010, 01:01:37 PM »
Husband and I went on Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th.  Crowd was very light both days.  On Thursday the 5 pm show for Pure Heart and Tracey Heaston at Riverfront Playhouse was about 3/4 full; same show as the 2009 version.  Went to the 6:15 Dickens show at the Opera House; I've never seen such a small crowd.  Hardly anyone on the sides and the center was about 3/4 full.  Some different folks in the show from the 2009 version.  Enjoyed both shows.  Went to the Living Nativity at 7:15.  The guy we really like as the narrator/singer was not in that role but playing a wise man instead.  Very small crowd. The seating arrangement was better this year with the raised seating in addition to seats on the floor. Then went out for the 8 pm parade -- easy to find a bench to sit on in the Love My Country area.  Was going to ride the train but it shut down early.  Got our 50th anniversary ornaments and season passes; we were the only people there.  In past years we've had to wait in line.

On Friday we rode FITH and the train. Noticed on the train ride that Lake Silver had really been drawn down to a very low level. Went to the 6 pm Choctaw Charlie Fa-la-la Follies saloon show -- it filled but the doors were open a long time before it filled up.  Pretty good show due to audience participation.  All of the Christmas decor in Jingle Bell Junction was already marked down 50%; don't know if Christmas Hollow had any markdowns.  There were a lot of markdowns in the Hospitality House and Ozark Marketplace. The 50th anniversary clothing and other items were marked down 50% so I bought a t-shirt. Overall it was a good trip!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: season passes for 2011 season

Yes, it would be great if the season passes were sturdier.  My husband had to have his replaced 3 times this year because of scanning issues.  The citizens working the gate told him there had been a lot of problems this year.

Random Talk / Re: RFD-TV Fans?????

Jim Stafford's Christmas show is supposed to be on RFD on Thursday December 9th at 9 pm.  Not sure when it was filmed.  The Duttons show that was on this week was filmed in 2003.

Branson Talk / Re: Branson NASCAR track
« on: December 01, 2010, 06:10:17 PM »
There was a lengthy article about it in today's Arkansas Democrat Gazette newspaper.  In the article there were several quotes from a NASCAR spokesman who said that anyone who builds a track does so at his/her own risk because there is never any guarantees that NASCAR would race at any track even it is built to NASCAR standards.
Sure would be a lot of money to spend to speculatively build a track.  Think of all the failed projects already around Branson:  the waterpark resort at Hollister, Indian Ridge at Notch, the failed Tanstone project next to Tanger Mall, Emory Creek development that was supposed to have a racetrack, the mall that was supposed to have been built behind Presley's theater back around 2003...........

My husband and I have discussed this, too.  We've determined that some targets do have more point values than others but haven't figured out which ones.  Most of the time he wins but every now and then I hit the one or more of the high scoring targets, and I win.
