Branson Talk / Re: tent camping...tall pines or wilderness?
« on: September 02, 2011, 08:39:11 PM »
Tall Pines is still a Good Sam park.  Had a new GS sign up when we were there in August.  We've always received the Good Sam discount there.  We used to camp frequently at the state park but gave it up when we needed to have internet access daily due to business reasons.  We went through a period when we alternated between the Wilderness and Tall Pines.  We gave up on the Wilderness when they kept putting us in sites that were really too small for our 26' trailer.  Even with our SDC pass discount it was less expensive at Tall Pines with our Good Sam discount.

Branson Talk / Re: Chester's
« on: September 02, 2011, 07:29:32 PM »
Dick Clark did not own Dick Clark's American Bandstand Theater and Grill.  Dick Clark just sells a license fee to use his name, and it is used at other places, too.  Another person owned the theater, grill, Area 57, and the nearby Ramada Inn.  There was a big auction earlier this year and the properties were sold.

Chester's was at Hillbilly Inn and rented the restaurant space.  At lease renewal time, the property owner wanted more money.  Chester's then moved to the old Penny Gilley restuarant location across from Branson Mall.  Earlier this summer the family that owned Chester's decided to close (the restaurant business is a tough one to be in even during good economic times).  A restaurant that serves Indian food is now in the location across from Branson Mall.

The tent sites at Tall Pines are in the back of the campground away from the road and are secluded.  Easy walk to the back bathhouse.  We frequently camp at Tall Pines.

Branson Talk / Car Cruise Weekend
« on: August 12, 2011, 06:15:11 PM »
Just a reminder this is car cruise weekend in Branson.  Shepherd of the Hills has a big to-do going on for the cruise, and traffic will be very slow all through Branson this weekend.

Branson Talk / JEERK leaving Branson
« on: August 12, 2011, 06:12:32 PM »
The Swedish group JEERK, which has had a show at the Hughes Brothers Theater in 2010 and 2011, will be leaving Branson at the end of August.  The group had a fall schedule but it has been canceled for them to go on tour in Europe and the U.S.  JEERK got its Branson start by appearing at SDC's KidsFest in 2009.

Yes, the group that had the winning bid at the auction could not come up with the cash.  The Grand Palace is back on the market again.  A national firm that specializes in commercial properties is trying to sell it this time.

I think the tram waiting area could be much better, too.  It's also miserable in the heat of the summer when the temps are high and the sun is beating down (NO SHADE) and you have to wait 30 minutes for a tram.

Hubby and I went to the city on 7/14.  Got there just after opening.  Used the coupon for the apple turnover.  The nice lady in the shop cut it in half and put apple butter on it -- very tasty!  Looked in some of the shops and ended up at FITH.  Had to wait about 15 minutes to ride. Seemed like there was less music than usual during the ride.

Then went over to the Opera House for the Wallendas show.  Show actually started 15 minutes early with a warm-up act by the emcee.  The Dancing Gauchos were pretty good as was the hula hoop woman.  The aerial artist on the hoop was okay.  But the Wallendas were fantastic!  From where we sat we could see their facial expressions and hear them talk to each other during the act.  Was a very entertaining show and one of the best we've ever seen at KidsFest.

Ate some more using our coupons and went to the Boatworks for the Pure Heart show.  The Dockside Theater and the Riverside Playhouse were both dark that day (guess there were less shows in order to pay for the Wallendas).  Went to the Flooded Mine and it was my lucky day -- I hit several of the big point targets and set a personal record -- 409,500 points!  My husband usually beats me substantially but he has never had a score higher than 250,000. I was so excited! ;D

After that we rode TNT and left about 1:30.  Was starting to get really hot and we needed to go to Springfield to take care of some business.  Enjoyed my visit but wish we could have stayed the rest of the day to ride the water rides.

I think it would be safe for a woman in the early months of pregnancy to ride RiverBlast.  The ride is not any more "strenuous" than the Flooded Mine, and is easier to get in and out of the boat.
