Branson Talk / Red Roof Mall Closing

Looks like the Red Roof Mall is going to bite the dust.  Simon, who manages the mall, wants the city to take it over since the city owns the land.
There is hope that some of the stores will move to the Shoppes of Branson Meadows, another property managed by Simon.

Received 2 emails from SDC yesterday.  One was for a deal of buying one day admission tickets for $30 online only -- up to 6 tickets.

Dollywood Discussion / Dollywood sues HUSS

SDC's Bluegrass and BBQ Festival was named the winner of the bluegrass event of the year award by the International Bluegrass Music Association.  The award was announced in Nashville this week.  More details from KHOZ radio:

Branson Talk / Car Cruise Weekend

Just a reminder this is car cruise weekend in Branson.  Shepherd of the Hills has a big to-do going on for the cruise, and traffic will be very slow all through Branson this weekend.

Branson Talk / JEERK leaving Branson

The Swedish group JEERK, which has had a show at the Hughes Brothers Theater in 2010 and 2011, will be leaving Branson at the end of August.  The group had a fall schedule but it has been canceled for them to go on tour in Europe and the U.S.  JEERK got its Branson start by appearing at SDC's KidsFest in 2009.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Discovery Channel Filming at Kids Fest

The Discovery Channel will be at SDC on June 10th to film Nik Wallenda performing aerial stunts from a helicopter flying over Echo Hollow.  This show will take place at 4 pm, and you can be part of the audience.  The Fabulous Wallendas will also have a show during the run of KidsFest from June 11 -- July 24th.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Rhonda Vincent Live from SDC CD

Went to the city on Wednesday 5/18 and saw all 3 shows in the Opera House featuring Rhonda Vincent and the Rage.  Was announced at each show that all 3 days of her shows were being recorded for an upcoming CD "Rhonda Vincent and the Rage Live from SDC" or a similar title.  Her first 2 shows on Wednesday ran about 35 minutes and her last show ran almost an hour.  Excellent shows and I'm glad to say that I was part of the audience for the live recording event.

Got another email survey this week.  Some questions about Echo Hollow -- do you know it's there, when was the last time you went to a show in EH. etc.

Most of the questions were about Kids Fest and possible future shows and cartoon characters.  Show possibilities included a Cirque' type show, a big soap bubble show, a light show in which 2 kids explore "Marvel Cave", and a Glee type show.  A list of cartoon characters was given and wanted to know if you were familiar with the character and how well you liked the character.  List included the Flinstones, Dora the Explorer and Diego, Tom and Jerry, Cat in the Hat, Spongebob, Scooby Doo, and some other characters that I haven't seen before.

In the comments I said that I didn't think the cartoon characters went with the theme of SDC.

Anyone else get this survey?

There's a casting call going on today 3/25 and Saturday 3/26 for actors to be in an upcoming commercial for SDC and for a Showboat commercial.  The auditions are in Springfield.  You can call 417-521-9045 for more info.

Branson Talk / Trolleys gone from the Landing

It was in the recent Branson Tri-Lakes News that the trolleys are gone from the Landing.  The lease on the trolleys expired and Landing management decided not to renew the lease.  Management is looking for a more environmentally friendly way to transport people who do not wish to walk up and down the Landing.  However, there is now a trackless train that you can ride for $5 a person.

Random Talk / Myrtle Beach Dixie Stampede changing

Wasn't sure where to put this.  Read in this morning's Springfield News Leader that at the end of this year Dolly Parton is closing the Dixie Stampede in Myrtle Beach SC; it's been open for 18 years.  It will reopen in 2011 as Pirates' Voyage featuring fighting pirates and a 5 course meal.   The article said the Dixie Stampede shows would continue in Branson and Pigeon Forge.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Todd Oliver leaving Showboat

Not sure where to post this...

Read today on the 1branson board that this is Todd Oliver's last year on the Showboat Branson Belle.  In 2011, Todd Oliver and his talking dogs will have a show at the Jim Stafford theater.  Guess HFE is coming up with something new for the dinner cruises.
