SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: What keeps you coming back to SDC?
« on: March 25, 2008, 08:27:06 PM »
I have no idea what it is specifically that keeps me coming back. Maybe it's the overwhelming charm of the place, maybe it's the great new expansions, maybe it's that there's always more to do, or maybe it's the wonderful memories 3 generations of my family have shared there since it opened as a cave attraction.

I dunno, I've just always felt that I need to keep coming back, like the place is some special part of my family history.

Alright, the site is ready for a weak soft-launch as soon as I get the content put in, which shouldn't take too long. There'll be a lot of problems with it, but it'll be good enough to work with for a while. At least updates will be a hell of a lot easier, so I'll be able to actually post news updates more frequently.

You'll notice a lot of empty spaces or areas with 'coming soon' written on them though, but bear with me for a while until I get them up.

Also, I've only checked the site in FireFox and IE7, so if you use a different browser, speak up now. (though there's probably not a whole lot I can do if you're still using IE6)

Edit: Never mind, I've decided to wait once again and launch the site when it's more complete. As it is, it would be usable, but there's so much stuff to fix... I'd rather wait till it was more complete.

What I will do is hook up the current home page to my news module so that I can keep more frequent updates up until the time that I can launch the full site. Don't worry, if I have any time at all, the new site should be done soon, maybe by next week if I can work on it every night. There's just a lot of new features with this upgrade that I haven't ever built before like this.

^Heh, haven't you seen the Landing lately? They've been trying to get rid of anything that anyone could possibly hurt themselves on across the park. If they put in a slide, it'd get torn down in two years and replaced by a massive version of those craptacular crawl-through thing-a-ma-jigs that kids always get stuck in.

See, the thing is that they could theoretically work by giving the place a little more to do than just ride, shop, or play around, but they need to be a lot more creative and a lot better designed than what they have now - and yes, the prizes need to be a little more appropriate.

I once heard a conductor state that one of the trains was used in WWII - is this true? It seemed a bit small for any major use.

They're alright where they are, as they've grown into the charm of the place, but I wouldn't really want to see much else put down there ride-wise. Then again, the carousel would have a much higher ridership if it were somewhere more visible...

Anyone have any photos of it?

Meh, I wouldn't be too picky. In the case of Wilson's Barn, it turned out quite nicely, though it would have been nice if more of the original plans were followed.

The designers at SDC know what they're doing, I think this new area will be a lot better than either Wilson's or the Grand Expo. I just hope they don't try to throw in anymore side-games, at least any that stick out into the pathway like at a carnival...

Branson Talk / Re: What happened to Pinnacle Falls?
« on: March 23, 2008, 08:44:33 PM »
Hmmm, maybe Branson is getting a little out of hand. I've always wondered when it would all stop - the endless destruction of the natural hills and valleys so new strip malls could go in, only to close down soon after opening. I though Pinnacle Falls was a good idea because of how balanced it was, but the mayor is probably quite justified in halting the major projects for the mean time. Someone needs to clean up the way Branson developement works.

Meh, I still say that particular area would be too close to Echo Hollow for anything huge - however, a smaller coaster could fit in there.

The park did mention before that the 2009 project would have it's own area though, so I think it'll continue on from either Wilson's Farm or the Wildfire/PK loop.

Hmmm, we're really going to have to watch the expo, though I kinda doubt they'd want to put a coaster there with it being so close to the road, and so near Echo Hollow where it would disrupt things.

There have been various rumors sprouting up recently about them re-doing the Landing, but I haven't heard one I like yet. That area really needs to keep its quaint, center-city feel - any sort of new ride would really start making the entire park feel more like a big amusement park than an actual city.

We've talked about this before, but back in 2005 they nearly put the Grand Expo there, and I think it was Mary Herschend who stopped them. Let's hope they keep to their senses.

What about the Mansion? Were the rumors of work there true?

Ugh, so today I was about to release the site, but I ran into another big error that I need to fix, and with it being Easter Sunday tomorrow, it'll be tough to get it fixed and the site up anytime soon. Besides, after I get it fixed, I have to go back and upload all the news stories in order, and fix some other styling bugs, and fix some browser bugs...

^Very neat.

Heh, this might sound weird, but if anyone can get a photo of the stairs, I'm sure visitors to this site will appreciate it.
