General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Wildfire

^We've run into this before. For some reason, certain browser settings block photo attachments, and there's not much we can do about it other than use photobucket where possible.

It's a great photo though. Was it one of the original PR images? It looks like it's been enhanced.

Has to be, what else could it be? Just traditional SDC recycling. Very neat.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: ECC visits SDC and CC

^I think it depends on the ride ops.  I've had it both ways.  When there's no one in line we've been allowed to stay on the ride sometimes, but other times we've been told that we have to get off and go back through the queue.  This has happened at both SDC and SFStl.

This is true. There seems to be a chain-wide policy set up against re-rides without going through the line again, but sometimes it's not always followed through when there's only a handful of people and it's late at night. Wildfire's ops sometimes let people line-up at the exit after riding so that they can run in again to fill empty seats.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / ECC visits SDC and CC
« on: June 16, 2008, 08:15:33 PM »
The European Coaster Club paid a visit to both SDC and CC recently. 54 Europeans spent an entire day at SDC which included one of SDC's famous luncheons and ERT on Powderkeg.

From their comments, they really enjoyed the park. Read them here -> http://www.coasterclub.org/trips/reports/2008/AA2008/day06/
CC comments are on day 5. It sounds like they really enjoyed it as well, though the ride op's on Wildcat were acting like dicks. That's probably the first time I've heard complaints about Herschend employees.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Six Flags CEO Spotted At SDC

It sounds like Mark Shapiro may have paid a visit to SDC lately, though who really knows the validity of the story. I wouldn't be surprised if it were true however, as SDC is not only an outstanding park but also a major competitor to SFStL and a growing regional player overall. I really hope the visit rubs off on him the value of true overall quality, atmosphere, and abundant good-hearted fun vs. rides being the only offering at a park.

Construction/Rumors / Re: New Parking Lot/Road Plans

So is the parking lot done yet? Surely in a month's time they've been able to put the asphalt down.

^I think some of those things just break from time to time, because I know I've gone several times before and been either disapointed that it wasn't working or surprised that it had been fixed again.

The place just needs a good fix-up. It doesn't have to be extensive to the point that they have to put in the wheelchair access, but they could just take out some of the old tricks and re-build them so they work better. Any ideas when they'll work on the place? I heard they were going to do some stuff to it last off-season, but obviously that didn't really happen unless the new pool felt was all they were planning.

Dollywood Discussion / Re: DollyWood's Old Log Flume
« on: June 10, 2008, 03:00:05 PM »
Wow, that is completely different than the Bell's version, which was honestly a lot better. I guess they weren't mirrored copies after all, unless the DW version was reconfigured after being taken out of the fair.

I guess it was a pretty important ride though for having inspired AP.

Thanks for the info.

Dollywood Discussion / DollyWood's Old Log Flume
« on: June 09, 2008, 10:05:47 PM »
I know there are some DW fans on here, so I hope one of you has a photo of DW's old County Fair Falls log flume that was torn down several years ago. I'm interested in the ride due to the fact that it was a sister of the flume at Bell's Amusement park, both flumes having operated together side by side during a worlds fair in I think 1980 or 1984... too lazy to look it up.

Did anyone here ride on it? What was it like and how as it themed?

I'm anything but a glass-half-empty kind of guy, but boy does that attraction just scream for major refurbishment now.  With the tunnel section as it is now, the whole experience is sub par.  You feel like you are doused with disappointment even before you get soaked with water.

Yeah, and there are some rumors flying around that this may very well happen soon.

It kind of scares me though, because I love AP's theme, and any major re-furbishment project would probably do away with it in lieu of something more generic and modern. The whole Ozark daredevilry thing is very cute and fits in oh so well, and I really loved all the old effects they used to have to go along with it. Even without the awesome old tunnel, there's still a few old effects that are really well done like the boat that slides out and over riders and the classic whirlpool.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: How's Celebration City Doing?
« on: June 05, 2008, 08:23:51 PM »
^^ It doesn't really compare to six flags, or at least any six flags I've been to. CC has all the Herschend charm with a lot more rides involved. It's extremely well themed, though the atmosphere is no where near SDC quality just because of the way the park is so set on rides rather than being an overall experience like SDC.

It is certainly a park for ride lovers still, though there are a few nice shops and some great shows from time to time. The rides themselves are pretty good, but lacking in number. Like I said, the park needs to expand more in every area before it can really make it, but it can make it.

The tunnel was re-built for structural reasons during PK's construction.  It needed to be sounder so that equipment could be parked above it, and so that eventually a pathway can go over it. Like everyone's said though, I sure wish they could have built in some new effects rather than just having a dark tunnel, but things like that were slashed for unknown reasons all around. PK's water effect still isn't working, is it?

Man, the forum picture uploader is crapping out again. Anyone else not getting the whole photo to load? I tried downloading it and opening it up, but apparently the file is corrupted? Would you mind trying to upload it again, orient express?

^That's great to hear, it's those kinds of things that really make the park, even more than the big new rides.
