Great, more McMansions to scar the hills. If people enjoy the ozark views so much, why do the insist on ruining them? It won't be long till the other side of that valley is covered in McMansions as well.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Wildfire

Yeah, you know every time I visit SDC I marvel at how well done Wildfire is. I mean, everything fits in perfect. It's far enough away from the park not to distract from the city atmosphere, while it's hilltop location allows it to tower over the trees and mark SDC on the landscape. The theming is just great, especially the little contraptions that are scattered around outside the building and inside the gift shop, and the story behind the ride is so unique and just fits SDC so well. This was one of those projects that SDC really poured their hearts out into.

^^Very nice! I'll add it to the bottom of the forums when I make some planned changes to it later next week. Like you said, the log and axe make me wary about using it too prominently like on T-shirts and such, but it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

If those images are totally wrong, how are the planning on theming this thing? Maybe it will be more Tom and Huck centered than was portrayed, or maybe they're planning on some side-additives to the ride that will make it even more interactive than previous models...

As long as they aren't going to bring in the shiny plastic-looking stuff I'll be very excited to see how this turns out.

Wood siding! I never imagined from the photos, it's unfortunate that it looks so similar, but it's good to know. I guess as the building grows older it will blend in more this way as well, especially if they re-paint it a different color down the road. There's still the tin roof to complain about though. ::)

^That would be great, I can feature them easier from my controls.

What kind of grumpy workers were they? Official park workers? I wouldn't take too much stock in what they say, they're probably alluding to the fact that the location for the balloons hasn't been decided on yet.

^That would be another thrill ride in area full of thrill rides though, which is the point about moving the Ballons there. It would be the start of evening the park out a little more. If they threw in just a couple of other small rides the size of the frog bounce, then they'd have a nice little area up there so families didn't always have to go back and forth.

...
I did hear at lunch that the Drawings that were sent out in the survey were not the correct ones that were supposed to go out and that they do not match the ideas that they are mulling over... so that was interesting.

I also got to hear some of the ideas about the 50th Anniversary but was sworn to secrecy or i'd be shot on the City Square.

Hmmm, those were wrong? Of course it was just concept art, but I liked what they were going with in them. Hmmm, maybe the Splash Battle will be set to more of a backwoods pond than a riverfront like I originally thought. What was presented in the concept art seemed pretty basic Splash Battle stuff though, I wonder what they have up their sleeves? I know they've been getting a lot of heat about how this will take away so much tradition and replace it with too much annoyance for parents, so I'm more excited than ever to see how they'll mold this whole area to both thrill the kiddies and please the parents (and everyone else). Have they said anything about the announcement date yet? Are they going to drop any more clues?

It's great to hear there's buzz about the 50th anniversary, but don't let us on to anything yet, we all love the speculation.

^Thanks, it's fixed now.

Looks like we may get a few photos today of the Landing progress.

Copper just sent in a few shots of the old Landing rides sitting in a back lot: http://www.sdcfans.com/gallery.php?g=10

Looks like the old carousel is toast. I'm ready for the carousel of seasons anyway.

The really interesting thing is that the new location for the Balloons is not set in stone yet. Does this mean it may not go to the Expo afterall? I could see them wanting to put it somewhere else simply to spread the smaller rides out. Could it go up by Wildfire? It's aways away from all the other smaller rides, but it would give the kids something to do while their older siblings ride the coasters...

Dollywood Discussion / Re: What happened to Thunder Express?
« on: July 21, 2008, 10:29:11 PM »
I remember there being a deeper reason than just to make room for Thunder Express, but I can't remember much. I think it may have had something to do with the land, but it just seems odd because it was such a valuable coaster to the park from the looks of it. It would be pretty popular today.

This is one of those forums that not a whole lot of people will join, but there's enough fans around to make it interesting.

Anyway, I think the photo galleries are fixed now - don't know how I overlooked that before.

Also, I've just sent out a mass e-mail to every single person on the boards with an e-mail address, so disregard it. It's meant for all those who have posted before, but forgot about the site. Maybe they'll be more interested now.

^^The site has actually become a LOT more popular since the upgrade. We've more than doubled our daily unique visits.

^Arrg, of course. I thought I had that all worked out. Thanks for letting me know.

Hmmm, I'm going to have to do another upgrade soon just to clean up the code.  ::)

Dollywood Discussion / What happened to Thunder Express?
« on: July 21, 2008, 08:58:08 PM »
What's the story behind the disappearance of Thunder Express at DW It looked like a fun and well-themed ride, though filled with lots of flat spaces. It looks like it was a great family coaster.

I'm assuming it was taken out to make way for Tennessee Tornado, but couldn't they have used one of their other expanses of land for it?

Here's a little info on it, and some great photos: http://rcdb.com/id588.htm

This is a Mondial Supernova -> http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index%20Pages/supernova.html

I don't really mind the park's sharing concepts so long as each individual project is unique. I mean, to some degree it just makes sense for them to use what they know works. It won't be terribly noticeable for SDC to have the Giant Swing and Dollywood to have a Barnstormer, so long as the barns are different and DW's has unique barnstormer theming. It's not like SF and the Tony Hawk spinning coasters yet.
On the other hand, I kind of wish they would go back to experimenting around a little more, especially if they tried out things like Intamin's and Huss Giant flats (other than topple towers).

^That's actually why I decided not to change anything major, this layout really just works, even if it is way different than the main site.

Only an individual user can delete their comments on the main site. Eventually mods will be able to modify and edit comments as well, but I haven't gotten that far yet.
