Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2018 Project(s) and Park Developments

Will be very interesting to see how ridership looks given its sure to appeal to a more limited audience. Man, what a bummer. I would think they would at least give the rider the choice of whether or not to spin.

Maybe the magnets could hold the seats in place on request?  I was bummed too that it didn't have at least one car that doesn't spin.

At least it will be controlled....sounds like they picked up on peoples concerns about that.  It's an interesting marketing issue to explain to the public that it's not the tea cups on rails.

Wow, this looks incredible. I don't know why it just occurred to me but does anyone think there is any chance SDC avoids having to do a ton of theming by going the route of virtual reality? A lot of coasters are doing that these days.

It would allow them to blast us to whatever time period they wanted and there could be multiple variations of the ride. However, if this thing does spin and have virtual reality then that could make a lot of people very nauseous.

Are you kidding me?  Why would you cover the natural scenery of this ride up with some VR glasses?

1.21 gigawatts :P

I think everyone is hoping for a launch through a time portal.

So I guess the launch will get you back up to the station?  Still don't understand how the train gets back to the station.

Is Cedar looking to dump Worlds of Fun in a sale?

WoF has never exactly been a focus park for the company....its' not regionally associated with any other CF parks.....has strong regional competition to deal with.  I would assume it would be on the list of available parks if CF is looking to unload.

It's not a knock on the park....it just is what it is.

I know a couple have made mention of this but here is an enlarged picture of it. Anyone wanna take additional guesses as to what the heck this might be? It's not present on any of the other track segnents from what I can tell.

It's teeth for the train to hold still before the 90 degree dive.

I know that it doesn't look like it will be the Mack that is kinda of a wing coasters like SkyRush at Hershey's. We almost had a winged dive coaster, two B&Ms in one basically :P

Not only does it hold ya....it spins ya like a fidget spinner before it releases :P

I'm having a hard time picturing what kind of train this is build for.  Will it be a 'traditional' 5-7 car Mack Coaster?  Euro fighter like trains?  Individual Mouse Spinners?  B@M Dive coaster like?

Seen a few pics of the arm of the ride.  Looks like it just broke off.  Probably metal fatigue.  Just plain horrifically scare stuff that might not have a clear root cause for why it happened:(  Curious to see the final investigations.  I've always been more fearful of crazy flat rides like that than any stationary build roller coaster.

The park will announce its new for 2018 additions on August 16th with the rest of the parks in the Cedar Fair chain.  The rumor is that the park will announce 1-2 additional flat rides.  It is also rumored that the park will be removing the classic Huss Rotor ride (Finnish Fling) at the conclusion of the 2017 season due to a "lack of available parts"

That is a terrible rumor.....Finnish Fling is such a unique ride....it's a real 'memory maker' type of ride that families can do together.  I've always wondered why there are not more of them at more parks?  It also seems like a fairly safe ride too.  Maybe they can find some type of modernized version.

Every Jules Verne design had some sort of wings.

Maybe SDC could get a RedBull sponsorship out of this :P

For the record....the timeline fits....Jules Verne books would/could have been well known during our fozen in the late 1800s city timeframe.

We drove by OWA on a trip down there over the holidays during the family visit.  I've been watching it cause I'm sure I'll get to check it out in the future.

$199 for oceanview is almost too cheap....lol.  I'm going to wait and see if the kids like cruising and If I can't get an unbelievable on-board deal with RC on this trip I may 'jump ships' and try one out of Mobile.

251
Haven't tried Carnival yet....they seem to have a reputation of just being a booze cruise for party goers which I'm not.  That being said I'm happy they are going back into Mobile....I've got family there and might take advantage of that.  Was hoping another line would try out Mobile too.

That sounds like an exiting trip....have a co-worker who just come back from their 2nd Disney cruise.  He has a very spoiled only child that has already been to DW DL and 2 cruises and he is only 6....lol  I looked at them but went with a Royal Caribbean ship at 1/4th the price (1/2 the cruise price and no airfare needed).  I even compared the trips with my kids and they wanted to go with RC.

Alright....I do not keep up with Disney stuff....help me with the highlights.

Is Star Wars going to be it's own new park? When/where?  Are they still doing the once rumored Aviator park?  Toy Story Land?  Are they ever doing the Cars world at WDW like they did in CA?

My the one week I did do WDW 5-6 years ago was pretty overwhelming.  As amazing as the themes, attraction, and hotels are....the crowds where stressful for me.  Week for of entertainment and stress.  I gave my kids the option to vacation at WDW or Universal this year but they all overwhelmingly wanted to do cruise instead.  All that being said....I still may go again with the right additions.

Spread the 4 parks out over 5 to 7 days. Do just Disney and stay on resort (rent a dvc unit) or do what we did. Split you stay into two DVC rentals(one for Wilderness for the boat ride into Disney and monorail connection to Epcot.and one at Animal Kingdom lodge for AK and just drive to or Bus to Studios and water parks plus there's a side road that dumps you out into Kissimmee's main drag.

Do the rest of Orlando in separate trip.

Toy Story Land is going into DHS, opens next summer.
They added a track to Toy Story Mania, building a Slinky Dog Launch Coaster and a clone of the Mater's ride at Cars land themed to the aliens.

Star Wars is also going into DHS, it is much larger land wise than Toy Story. The hotel will be built adjacent to it.

2/3rd of Studio is under the knife.

I think they should have included a couple more Toy Story Themed flats. A double deck carousel with all the characters would have been nice and a mother and child eater

This shows toy story on the bottom and star wars up top

A thing I found out is if you sign up for a Disney DVC pitch on a cruise, they give you 6 fast passes for your days at WDW.  I am going to take full advantage of that. We have been eyeing  buying enough DVC points in the aftermarket to fund a weekly trip every Three years off of renting out the points we don't use. Around 300 we figure. But we want to get the perks of buying directly. So we are eyeing a minimum purchase into DVC directly from Disney (copper creek)

The wife and I are thinkin ahead to grandkids and Orlando also is becoming a good place to fly internationally from with the rise of LCC long haul operators like Norweigian and even Emirates to really far destinations.

So I guess 2020 is the date for star wars land?  I'm surprised they didn't do the full new park for it.....always thought DHS would be fine if they just made it the hollywood/pixar land.

We stayed at the resort and only did disney that week with 3 little ones.  We used the buses, took advantage of the early/late hours, and made the months in advance reservations.  I was kind of a pain to plan.  I can't imagine staying offsite and dealing with the traffic/parking every day.  We did a week of Universal and all the non-disney stuff before kids.  If it wasn't for Star Wars land....and the kids prefer Disney.  I'd probably only want to go back to see Universal and its many upgrades again.

Here where my mind wonders on the fate of the classics:  I have no inside knowledge....just my 'fun' speculation...

Have FiTH take a season off as a replacement attraction is built in that building.  Probably a "Justice League" type of ride.  Can even keep the theme and storyline....just add modern tech for a 'better' ride experience.

Add a new modern water ride and/or chute ride behind AP an open up a ton of new space in the AP lot to use for better path flow to WF and maybe close the loop over to PK.

I've always pictured a tower at the site of FM where might be able to reuse a lot of the building.  They find black gold under the mine....they unflood the mine....free the inmates to work the oil rig....and build a oil tower.  Build a 200ft tower of terror style ride that has a mining elevater move through the old path of the ride with all new theming in the mine....then lines up with a new oil tower (on the pond near the end of the ride) where a gusher of black gold takes you for a ride.  Would be a great centerpiece for for the middle of the park.
