General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Founder's Weekend
« on: May 10, 2016, 10:13:22 AM »
I can't help but wonder about the pride that must swell in Pete and Jack's hearts when they stroll the streets of the City. They have grown it from a hole in the ground to one of the nation's top-tier theme parks. On top of that, they have created a place that is so special to families...like a second home to many. What a great legacy! What would Hugo and Mary say if they could see it now!

One thing I've always noticed and admired is one of the cables that support the suspension bridge. It is up near the Wagon Works restaurant. At some point in the past, they covered it with faux tree bark so it wouldn't stand out. That's the attention to detail that used to exist that I miss in today's new projects! If you've never noticed it, look for it on your next visit to the City!

Why do "big changes" make me nervous rather than excited? Anybody else feel this way?

The way the entrance is now gives one a feeling that they are truly leaving one world/era and entering into another. I certainly hope it stays that way. From what I read on this site, the PTB assume that old=bad. That isn't always the case. There is a reason that SDC has been a successful theme park for 55 years. I don't know how many family pictures we have in front of the water wheel, giant SDC sign, and water clock. I hope they stay.

I was really skeptical about Fireman's Landing. It doesn't really scream 1880's Ozark Mountains to me. However, after seeing it this summer, count me impressed.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Phone in the General Store

The phone in the General Store is broken! For as long as I can remember, one could pick up the receiver and hear people on the "party line". It was always one of those must-do things for my kids and me. It was one of those special little details that made SDC unique. I asked the lady in the General Store if it was going to be fixed, and she said she didn't know. If I had to place a bet, I would say that it is gone forever...like the Post Office, Tree House, Tom Sawyer's Landing, et al. Sigh.

First, I beg and plead that this doesn't happen. You can go to any theme park in the country and ride a roller coaster. There is only one Flooded Mine (and Fire in the Hole). These are the rides that make SDC special. But I digress...

I rode FM on Saturday, and the music/dialogue wasn't working. It is eerie riding through there without it.

I agree totally with the Moonlight Madness music. Ugh. It completely takes away from the SDC experience. If the PTB wants SDC to become another generic, cookie cutter Six Flags, just do it and get it over with.

My favorite coaster is Powder Keg at SDC. I would venture to say that this coaster is a close second.

HW is a great park with great rides. However, you really learn to appreciate the atmosphere, theming, and attention to detail at SDC after visiting Holiday World. The two parks are just at completely different levels.

I rode on Holiday World's new launched, winged coaster over the weekend, and it is a fantastic ride. What impressed me the most, however, was the theming. Holiday World really stepped up their game in theming the exterior of the station and the areas around it (even though I'm not sure what the ride itself has to do with Thanksgiving). The inside of the station is pretty plain, but it is the best themed ride in the park. Theming isn't HW's strong suit.

The strangest thing about the ride is its location in the park. It is stuck off by itself away from the rest of the park, and it is quite a long walk to get there. Strange layout.

I hate to hear this. My kids were really excited about seeing this in a few weeks. It was a show that actually appealed to them.
