Fire in the Hole without Red Flanders is simply not Fire in the Hole.

not sure anyone analyzes the logo that closely.

...except maybe us SDC super fans.  :)

I would love to see some retro items in the gift shops featuring the 1970's logo. I think SDC is missing a merchandising opportunity there.

I like the new logo MUCH better than the 2010's logo. I never cared for that one!

I have given up all of my social media, so these forums are my only source of SDC news. I appreciate the forums.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Danny Eakin retiring

I'm not mentally prepared to lose Danny Eakin and Fire in the Hole in the same year. Terry Sanders better stick around for a few more years!!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Danny Eakin retiring
« on: May 01, 2023, 03:40:02 PM »
I saw on the Homestead Pickers Facebook page that Danny Eakin has announced that he will be retiring at the end of October.  :(

Those are some big, big shoes that won't be filled. Danny represents SDC to a whole lot of folks. I'll be sad to see him go, but wish him the best on his retirement.

My cardiologist says the same thing about the risk vs. reward of pork rinds.  :)

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Memories of FITH

I'll share my best FITH memory...

Every time my family and I ride, we always yell the Red Flanders line together as we go past ol' Mr. and Mrs. Flanders. It's funny to watch the looks on the faces of the people around us who have never been on the ride. They don't know what to think!

I, too, wonder if the new ride under construction will be something else. I was hoping they would replace our old friend FITH, but I would have thought they would have announced that in conjunction with the closure announcement.

I have zero inside knowledge, so I'm purely speculating. I wonder if the new ride will be a generic fire-fighter themed ride with no connection at all to FITH. I sure hope not, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if that happens.

The worst for me was the "Baldknobber Camp. Ya'll Keep Out" sign on Fire in the Hole. Ugh. Looks like it was made on a Cricut.

So...The Heart of the Ozarks tomato can label mystery...I'm guessing it has to do with the new dining area near the waterfall? Salad bar? Another Italian place? Inquiring minds want to know!

Where does everyone stay these days? Are there any good locally-owned hotels left? Lodge of the Ozarks is locally-owned, but it's out of my price range.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2022 Crowds / Trip Reports

I was told by an employee as I was leaving this evening that there were 24,000 through the gates today.

SDC still has that special attachment to me. I attended the hymn sing at the Wilderness Church. The piano player's brother (who happens to be the sorghum maker in the fall) got up and gave an impromptu recitation of "The Christmas Guest". It was a great moment for all who experienced it. You won't experience those moments at any other theme park.

Branson Talk / Grand Village
« on: November 04, 2022, 08:33:09 AM »
My family has always enjoyed stopping by former-Herschend-property-Grand Village when we are in Branson. Over the years, we have watched cycles of it sliding downhill, perking up a bit, then sliding back down. A few years ago, a developer announced a major rehab and the addition of new buildings, but it never happened.

We visited this past weekend, and I believe it's in the worst shape ever. There are only a few stores left, and the vacant spaces look really shady. The centerpiece of the village--the cupola on the main building--is so rotted that it looks like it could collapse at any time.

The nicest store in the complex is Pete Engler Designs, and the lady working there told me that they would close at the end of the year and move everything to their store downtown.

It's almost to the point that the place needs bulldozed. One would think that in an era of stores moving out of indoor malls into strip malls that this place could thrive, especially in a place like Branson. It's sad to see its decline.
