After just coming back from Dolllywood and seeing a slower day for them I disagree, SDC is not running at 85%, this is where a business needs to be. This is why Dollywood has more rides and is larger.
What can SDC do to increase attendance?

I am interested in hearing from some citizens on their opinions of attendance.
SDC is far from the crowds of Disney World, walking down the street there can be a real problem.

I just got a mailer today with several BAF but they are $15

I was in the park on Friday and there was a really rank smell in the line at Thunderation, I assume it was comming from the Echo Hollow restrooms as there were some maintenence workes there hanging around.
That area is frequently stinky.
Why cant they fix that up?

I was up at the city for a few hours on the 3rd of July and there were not many people there, understanding it was a day before a big weekend I am still concerned.
Enjoying the slower days (selfishly so) for the short lines I know this hurts the chances of expansion and added E ticket rides.

What do you think the city can do to draw in more customers and gain repeat visits?
WE all love the city but lets face it they need lots more visitors to warrant expansion.
I will get some argument out there from a few but the facts are if there were more visitors we would be looking at a new ride on lake Silver, not some cheaply planted trees.

What would you consider a solution to the attendance issue ?

I will say the load and unload in DW is so much faster and smoother with the belt they ride on in the station.
Kind of liek an omnimover in WDW.  THat alone helps them win.

Dropped into the park today to try to get the cinamon bread secret from Sullivans mill.
It was pretty quiet all in all but I am assuming that the crowds are on there way in for the weekend.
I enjoy it being slow but I also think its not a good thing for growth.....

It is a little longer and has a little more love.
Honestly I dont ride the plunge anymore, its gone downhill and is a stepchild of a ride

Distinct memories of being a young boy walking buy the spring at the top of the gunsmith hill simultaneously hearing Bluegrass and the bubling of that spring.
Went together like peanut butter and jelly....
I built a fountain like that just to remind me of the park.

I am in Dollywood this weekend, I would recommend you read the post
" DO we really want a Mystery Mine" I have ridden the ride a cpl times and its not a " repeat" ride, meaning that you can go on the SDC coasters more than once in a row but MM is jarring on the neck. We found that you needed some real recoup time before you wanted to do it again.
Granted this was a first for the company but I think they added a little too much " fun" into a short section of track.
Great concept high dollar first class ride and honestly would look fantastic next to lake silver, but it defiantly needs some tweaking.

Construction/Rumors / Do we want a Mystery Mine at SDC?
« on: June 26, 2010, 07:43:35 AM »
I am in Dollywood for the weekend and have ridden Mystery Mine a few times.
On my arrival I was excited about MM, when I went to the ride I could see the mine sitting next to lake silver, it looks great, the theming is fantastic, cool animatronics outside and sound effects ext.
Then I rode the ride.....
MM is a great trip through a troubled mine, effects are great with 2 good drops and a small one to enter the ride, curves, upside down heart line rolls, some cool track twists
but there is 1 big problem I have not seen addressed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D42Sc43HCi8

It a nutshell your head is to far from the track.  The ride " Can" do all these tight moves because of its design BUT, should it?  If you watch that vid when they slow the car you can see the heads of the rides throw forward, when you see the POV of the ride you will notice that the ride goes down a hill and then abruptly pulls up, this is very very hard on your neck.
There were 4 of us on the ride, adults in upper 30’s lower 40’s and 2 kids 12.  The first day I thought it was me, I was tired and this was the cause of my discomfort.  The second day the kids both said “ Oww” when we were going threw the first outdoor section of track.  I was all about a  MM when I first heard the rumor but now I hope that if they do go through with the ride they pull some of the turns out of the track and consider this glaring error in design..
This ride went upside down beautifully but the extreme curves were to extreme for me.
1 think I will tell you about Dollywood is they don’t have PowederKeg, that is a wonderfully smooth fun coaster, that is the coaster to be jealous of, and we have it.

Now as an after thought a suspended coaster would be a smooth ride………………………………

EXCEPT... Adventure Mountain is NOT at ZipLine Course -- it's a ROPES course.
Two completely different concepts
I am in Pigeon Forge on a trip and I will share with you that AM is much more than a ropes course, its a rope, beam, rocks, water, an obstacle course that is very very extensive and a really people eater.  You are climbing between 4-6 towers on different levels reaching some towers more than 1-2 times on switchbacks.
You " bored" this attraction buy strapping on a harness and feeding your wire and peg into a track that is above your head, this assures you stay on the course the entire time.
Its cool, bit not at all for older folks, it was 95% kids.  What I did notice is that it demands several employees to watch the entire thing, something that SDC would want to stay away from.
It was very well done and really something to look at but a big commitment when you put your line into the track you are in for 20-25 min worth of track.
It was a very cool attraction but not something that I would utilise, I am 40 in decent health.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Fire In the Hole Question
« on: June 26, 2010, 07:09:47 AM »

I agree 100%
I have opened my eyes to things that could be done to refresh SDC not rebuilt or revise it.
My trips to SDC started in 78, I have seen many little things disappear for no good reason
many of those things were touches that gave SDC the edge you re referring to.  They were never replaced, I see a lot of upkeep at Dollywood.  I hate to think that SDC is seeing some lack of tlc.
Dollywood is set 30 years later than SDC, there isn't that much difference in infrastructure.
Its a nice place, I hate to admit larger and has more rides but I think that the shops in SDC and the shows are more frequent.
You should check it out if you get the chance.

Well you really have to see the ride in person as I had seen the vids and such as well.
You are right the setting is a cpl year off but that really doesn't apply to anything in the ride with the exception of the RR crossing sign that has blinking red lights.
Its almost the same thing, the town scene is a copy.
I think what I was pointing to is the fact that they have used a little more TLC keeping up
BF.  I love FITH, but I now see what could be done to plus and improve the ride without rocking the " theme".  BF was built a few eyes later so some tweaking could occur but honestly there is some plussing that could be done.  I wouldn't have realized it without this trip.
Don't think for a min I am tearing down FITH, farthest from the truth.

There isn't much of any story that is explained.  There are a cpl of additional scenes such as a man chasing a woman and also a firefighter that shoots water over your car with his hose ( it lands across the tracks in a trough.) in the woods scene in the beginning there are a cpl basic anamatronic animals as well.
Blazing fury climbs much quicker than FITH and it platues out and starts to go downhill slightly before the drops, not sure why this happens. There is a waterfall falling from under the bridge and the bridge colapses.
The train scene is done better  as is the final drop, it has lighting effects in the tunnel with a water cannon that you get a good effect from.
It is smoother than FITH as well.
As i said no song makes for a less appealing ride.
If we get a mystery mine I do hope they smooth the thing out, it hurts your neck, even the 12 year old ride loving kids said this.

I am writing from Pigeon Forge at the Days Inn.  I just left Dollywood and I will tell you that Blazing Fury gives FITH some great competition.  I think that they have up kept the ride better at Dollywood,  its very very similar.  I say they have more of a light leak problem than SDC and its worth noting the lack of the theme song is really evedent.  I wonder why they didn't carry it over.  Its empty without that.
This is my first trip to Dollywood and its interesting, they have alot going for them although its obvious that it is the same company.
