General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2010 Trip Reviews
« on: July 16, 2010, 07:48:47 PM »

I have been to the city so many times that I cant count.
Living close allows me to drop in for a cpl hours and then go into town.
I have found that any time the school is in session the crowds are nonexistent.
At least on  weekday, I choose Sunday if I have to go on a weekend as it seems lighter than Saturday.
I really enjoy going during school season, if you can, I recommend it.

'The scooters can really be an issue.
I just had a pacemaker put in and before this became unable to walk around SDC without stopping frequently to build up some energy to continue. ( I am not completely out of shape so you wouldn't know this by my appearance)
I could have used a cart, that would have also allowed me to get in line first with my guest but I always thought that was a bad idea, " Bad Karma", It seems when people turn to the chair they don't return to their own 2 feet.
I have had a pacemaker installed and just yesterday was at the city.  It was such a good feeling to be able to walk the SDC terrain again.

2 4-15 year old girls passed me, they were in carts.  Heavy set, way to tight shorts coupled with tank tops held around there shoulders with a string, each lifting ice cream to theirmouths as they operated the carts with another. Bags of Kettle Corn on board.

Its bad karma people, its bad to use your laziness as a excuse to receive preferential treatment.

I am guessing that the people in the booths cant deny those carts to anyone that thrusts 35.00 in there face but boy they should.
I often wonder when I see this type scenario occur if there is a person truly unable to walk being told they are out of carts.
That whole cart thing really bothers me.

Went to the park for a few hours today, it was a sweltering mess.
We rode Wildfire and I couldn't help but think they should shut off that mist effect on days like today.  That raises the humidity so quickly in that load area those ride ops must be miserable at around 4 pm.
Powder Keg broke, not sure of they ever got it up again, they were running 2 trains on Wildfire and 3 on PowderKeg. I was proud of that.
After Powderkeg let me down ( I was next in line to load after a 30 min wait) I decided that a Rootbeer Float was all I needed to make my short trip compleat.
It is so nice to have a pass and live close......

BTW, they were spraying alot of water on the crowds today with hoses.   I am not sure if that would make me feel cooler or just wet and miserable.  I stayed away from the water.

am a Dollywood fan and a newbie to the site. I thought it would be interesting to finally get to talk about DW, DSC, SDC, & WW
I have been to SDC probably 80 times maybe 100 but just got to go to DollyWood for the first time a cpl weeks ago.
Its an interesting comparison.  I love the setting Dollywood is in, the stream running through is really a great natural attribute.
SDC has age on it and I think a little more seasoning to it.  SDC seemed to have more shops or more IN the shops.
I think Dollywood has a little more money behind it, sad to say but I believe its true.
The rides are a different caliber, a little higher dollar.
BUT
The parking in SDC is better more organised, better marked and its free.

That is 49.00 for " full service"
I think a shampoo, cut, dip and nails here is 40.00
THat really isnt bad considering the service

There is a lot of waisted space in that ozark marketplace.
But I dont thinkthere is room for a restaurant of any kind.
Unless its like the pizza counter at the Hospitality House

Well, McDonald's might not be a terrible thing to put into the exit of SDC, that is if they served food................
Last time I went thru I threw a " burger" out the window in there parking lot.
I am not a food snob but I am also not a fool.  That isnt food.

The Galleon- should be a steam machine contraption.
Regatta- different types of boats representing different technologies.
Bug rides- less cute...
Tea Cups- more Victorian theme...
And I strongly dislike the elephants at SDC, they do not belong there.

Exactly my thoughts, I have also seen mention of " steam Punk" on this site, that would have worked perfectly.
After all some of what was at an exposition would have been laughed at today.  Seems like the perfect atmosphere for outrageous claims and crazy industrial contraptions.
Maybe in 15 years when they decide they are ready fro a refurb these things may be considered.

To be quite truthfull with you I haven't been back there in some time as the area is flat paved and treeless.
Its an oven back there, Six Flags like.

The fair seems to give a lot more leeway in what is there in the area.
I like the idea of a fair, I never thought the Grand Exposition was much of a theme.
They never really go all the way with the idea.  The fair idea leads itself easier to a kids area, after all that is really what this area is.   May I be so bold as saying the rides are not themed well to something like a Chicago Exposition or Worlds fair. Bugs and frogs? they work fine with a fair, and everyone likes a fair.
The Exposition could have been used for a mechanical area with a ride like the Ice house, the kids rides seem like a bad match.

I used to get pizza on the way out at the Hospitality house.
Maybe that's as close as they wanna get with warm food.
They could offer something different in the bakery on the way out.
Think of the sandwiches they could make ( fresh please, no clear plastic boxes in a cold case)

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Baggage Check
« on: July 13, 2010, 09:08:11 PM »
Dollywood didn't check bags, they didn't even check our cooler at the water park.
I understand the baggage checks but hate to think we are at that point in our society.
But I guess we are.
After 911 they did have baggage checks at SDC in the entrance. Seems like that's when they closed the little bridge there in the entrance arena.

I don't think they have started the $.50 bag racket yet, I hope not. I find that cheapens the entire environment, kind of like the Carney games....
I think if you went to the popcorn stand and asked they would give you a bag for free.
