General Silver Dollar City Talk / What si open during Moonlight Madness?
« on: August 01, 2010, 10:53:25 PM »

I am thinking about going this week as it sounds like crowds are light.
What is open besides the rides?
are the restaurants open or the shops?
What should I expect

I honestly hate the way they are chewing away at the hill.
Apparently it is not possible to create more parking across Indian point.
Its horrible looking.
They are doing a lot of that in Branson, " cleaning" the topography of hills and valleys.
Completely destroys the charm.
What about behind the Hotel with the Water Park, you want to talk about moving mountains.
Please bulldoze some old buildings and build more there.

about 6 years ago I got a SDC shirt that was a polo, it had the standard log logo embroidered in the side in the style of a polo shirt.
It was high quality, I think it was 25.00 and I wore it out.
Now when I go to SDC all I see are tie dye shirts and splashy neon colors.
I think they are missing an audience here.  Disney is one park that does carry the discrete adult conservative shirts that I like.
Why does SDC not supply this audience?
THATS
what I wish they sold ( again)

Saloon show.  No matter how busy it is, they always seem to have to BEG people to come in
I was there a few weeks ago and they were doing the same thing.
Walking by I dismissed it as a fluke but apparently not.
Maybe they need to think about the Carrie Nation Show.
That was by far the best.
Last time I saw the Salon Show it was a disjointed mess with the song " Its Raining Men" featured in one segment, I was honestly embarrassed. Maybe its time to break out the old tapes and learn an older show.
I know they tape the shows for future reference, not for release but for teaching tools, I have a few of the shows from there library.

All we can say about the scent of the 50th Anniversary candle is...thank goodness they went with the scent that they did! Our research department tells us they toyed with the idea of doing a series of candles on "great city streets of the USA,"  and the Memphis Beale Street candle and the New Orleans Bourbon Street Candle both had a scent that was a combination of human sweat, urine and vomit. Needless to say, they went in a different direction...

LOL
I love that, I was thinking that the candle should be in the form of a dipped candle with different stripes.
the first being green ( exhaust from the green tram ride in)( tribute smell)
second being the musty smell if the hospitality house, then the mill, funnel cake's, candy shop, tater patch, ......
A trip through the city in smells.
Now I may have forgot to mention that in between the stripes there will always be the black line that is the palate cleansing odor of road tar......

It looks like I am not the only one with an issue here.
I am upset with the problem but feel better I am not the only one commenting.
The new parking lot plan is much friendlier to the legs as you don't have to walk all the way up what was c.  But they don't have the efficiency down.
Myself I have run restaurants and a club or 2, I am aware that people in line causes the loss of sales, if you have more free time to walk around you can be buying food, trinkets, ext. you cant do this in line.  Disney apparently has become wise to this with fastpass. SDC needs to follow the lead, starting with the parking lot.
I will also say the turnstiles are another area that plugs up. Its a slow pace deal and could be really tuned up.
They have have that extra entrance up front that is not used.  There is a fine line at those turnstiles between being nice and waisting the time of those in the back of the line that have already been through a bad parking lot experience.
One thing I believe to be true in dealing with the public is you must make it as effortless as possible when you want someones money.  SDC is starting to make us work for it.

Ride lines were long, but not due to the crowds
What do you think the problem was?

There was a full seven minutes between trams
The same thing happened to us 2 months ago, and it took a long time between trains.
I think is the morning they are working on the last lot that they are parking so all of the efforts can be concentrated.  However I am not sure of what they were doing that trip.
I know a few weeks ago the line at 3 was wrapped all the way through the snake and out about 75 ft.  And train after train they kept coming in rapid service.  I honestly think it depends on the drivers that day, the sense of urgency or rather efficiency is lacking.
Its hot and there is no break in those parking lot lines.
I also do not like the way that they don't open one of those gates near where they drop you off so you don't have to walk bath through the " Q " they set up for the morning.

Dollywood Discussion / Re: Dollywood's Splash Country & White Water
« on: July 26, 2010, 10:03:00 AM »
DWSP is a hands down winner, I am a Branson area guy.
White water is cramped and honestly they havent done much to help with the shade problem.
Neither has Dollywood for that matter.  White water lacks any real attractions. THey really took away the fun when they removed teh old inner tube river rapids deal they had when I was a kid. That was teh best thing at the park and it was not a thrill slide.
Sorry Branson, Pigeon Forge wins this one.

We will see on the 2nd

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Jim Owens' Float Trip Ride
« on: July 25, 2010, 06:03:27 PM »
I have 2 questions on the float trip.

I loved this as a kid and seem to remember slow almost " Picking" music along the route of the ride, Is that correct?

The second question, I was looking at BetaMikes pictures of the float trip canal taken in 05. I was noticing the water level in some of the old canals seemed to be a little deeper, I remember there being more area next to the boat that was dry, it seemed like in these pics when they did the plunge they may have made the water level higher.
Am I crazy?

this style of coaster CAN be very successful and a lot of fun without the snappy movements.
You nailed it, " snappy" yes that's it.
I agree the speed is great, upside down is great, hairpin turns and sudden drops are bad....

except for the section between the 2 lift hills the ride is extremely smooth and a lot of fun
I agree, unfortunately that part is the " Joiner" to the start and end of the ride, the effects of the ride are great, the upside down is smooth as silk.  The second drop was also smooth as it could be but that middle part.
I still do believe that the way they did some of the track that slowing down that particular coaster car or quickly giving it speed it jerks at your neck.
Even the first little drop out of the station is a neck bender.
I think that when that ride works it really works, it is a good format but needs to be less acrobatic.
I do wish they would have done another heart line roll.
If this coaster had a longer area and they had not tried to fit so many tricks in a short area it would have been a winner.
Swoosh I am sure you have been on more of this type of coaster than I have. I do believe the shortness of the cars and the height you sit off the track gives it more of an opportunity to be physically demanding ride if they are not carefull.
Whatever they do I am sure they will learn from there first lesson.
