General Silver Dollar City Talk / SDC Music .....BlueGrass
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:30:09 PM »

There is a topic "whats your favorite sound at SDC".
There is something about the sound of the bubbling spring on Springstreet with bluegrass that takes me back to my boyhood years.  The sounds of the rolling water and the bluegrass marry in some way, they complement each other beautifully.
I was at the lake today ( over cast rainy, it was me and the dawg) as we walked I was listening to a podcast that I download regularly.  My mind went back to the late 70's early 80's and I decided I had to share this with the SDC Fans. This is the music that makes me think SDC.
Try it out and let me know what you think, its free and updated weekly.
I recommend the latest/last show as a first.
Enjoy

BTW, I have nothing to do with the show, just stumbled upon it one day.
I am just recomending it to friends  ;D

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Midnight Madness park music
« on: August 06, 2010, 09:53:29 AM »

There has been a little discussion on this topic but what do you think?
I found walking through SDC to the Ghost Busters theme and 99 luftbaloons just too far out there.
Is SDC trying too hard to cater to a different crowd?  McDonald's tried pizza some years back to expand there business scope, but it flopped, they aren't a pizza place, they sell hamburgers. In the same train of though SDC isn't Six Flags or World of Fun, they are both fine places to visit but these customers are walking into SDC for a reason.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Change out " Heading West"?
« on: August 05, 2010, 09:01:24 AM »
I have to voice that I think heading west is an over rated show.
Honestly I felt that For the GLory was  much better.
What are your thoughts?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / The 4 Top SDC eaterys......
« on: July 11, 2010, 07:17:54 PM »
Rate your 4 favorite SDC eateries with maybe even a mention of a favorite dish there.
Each of us haven't tried every restaurant or food in SDC so maybe we will get some good ideas, for a nice change of pace.
Its your chance to vote.

I was in the park on Friday and there was a really rank smell in the line at Thunderation, I assume it was comming from the Echo Hollow restrooms as there were some maintenence workes there hanging around.
That area is frequently stinky.
Why cant they fix that up?

I was up at the city for a few hours on the 3rd of July and there were not many people there, understanding it was a day before a big weekend I am still concerned.
Enjoying the slower days (selfishly so) for the short lines I know this hurts the chances of expansion and added E ticket rides.

What do you think the city can do to draw in more customers and gain repeat visits?
WE all love the city but lets face it they need lots more visitors to warrant expansion.
I will get some argument out there from a few but the facts are if there were more visitors we would be looking at a new ride on lake Silver, not some cheaply planted trees.

What would you consider a solution to the attendance issue ?

Construction/Rumors / Do we want a Mystery Mine at SDC?
« on: June 26, 2010, 07:43:35 AM »
I am in Dollywood for the weekend and have ridden Mystery Mine a few times.
On my arrival I was excited about MM, when I went to the ride I could see the mine sitting next to lake silver, it looks great, the theming is fantastic, cool animatronics outside and sound effects ext.
Then I rode the ride.....
MM is a great trip through a troubled mine, effects are great with 2 good drops and a small one to enter the ride, curves, upside down heart line rolls, some cool track twists
but there is 1 big problem I have not seen addressed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D42Sc43HCi8

It a nutshell your head is to far from the track.  The ride " Can" do all these tight moves because of its design BUT, should it?  If you watch that vid when they slow the car you can see the heads of the rides throw forward, when you see the POV of the ride you will notice that the ride goes down a hill and then abruptly pulls up, this is very very hard on your neck.
There were 4 of us on the ride, adults in upper 30’s lower 40’s and 2 kids 12.  The first day I thought it was me, I was tired and this was the cause of my discomfort.  The second day the kids both said “ Oww” when we were going threw the first outdoor section of track.  I was all about a  MM when I first heard the rumor but now I hope that if they do go through with the ride they pull some of the turns out of the track and consider this glaring error in design..
This ride went upside down beautifully but the extreme curves were to extreme for me.
1 think I will tell you about Dollywood is they don’t have PowederKeg, that is a wonderfully smooth fun coaster, that is the coaster to be jealous of, and we have it.

Now as an after thought a suspended coaster would be a smooth ride………………………………

Construction/Rumors / Areas for park expansion?
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:29:53 AM »

I have always wondered where the parks boundary's actually are.
Seems like a lot of the level ground is gone, maybe more behind the Wilson's farm area?
Where are the property lines of SDC?
Any thoughts of expansion or its challenges?

Due to surgery I have been unable to attend SDC for a month of so and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the haystack dryer?  I think its a great idea if it works and would be willing to spend 3.00 between a cpl of us to get some relief from the drip the question is,  'do they work'?

88
5 of us will be going to DW next month and I am interested in a few things.
As I am a SDC Passholder I do get a discount but my questions are is DW a full day park? what I mean is the shops and that attract me to SDC, as do the rides, what are the differences as far as adult activities.
I am looking forward to the trip and do see that they have a Q2Q system fro rent, if anyone has any experience let me know, does this work fro more than 1 reservation per ride? meaning sometines they give you 1 ride on MM and that's all, you have to use the system on other rides.
What do you guys think.
Ramada Inn hotel looks like a place I may stay.
Any suggestions for things to do in PF? shopping and such that is a little different from Branson.

The premium shows are filled and the lines wrapping through the powder Keg area are crazy.
Thoughts?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Culinary School Ideas
« on: May 24, 2010, 10:22:55 PM »
" "this is what we are going to do next year, will you like it?" survey.
They did the same thing with the Culinary School "

The culinary school is tanking it seems. They sure do try to coax you to take part, I myself don't see any since in it.  I am not into the whole Up charge deal.
