White Water Discussion / Re: Future of White Water
« on: July 28, 2012, 02:55:52 AM »
Around 2004 the powers that be in NW Arkansas considered putting in a waterpark at the Lowell exit on I-540. JB Hunt was selling a large parcel of land on the southwest side of the overpass. The idea died because at the time there was insufficient water lines to run water to the park from Beaver Lake, and the cost of putting them in was apparently not worth it. I wish they would have built it...I would have applied for a job. Springdale and Rogers both have aquatic parks, which I understand are pretty good...but a real waterpark like Whitewater would be great!  8)

The first place for a waterpark proposal in NWA was for the parcel of land that is sfill for sale today at the US 62 exit in Fayetteville.  At the time is was deemed that the population base still wasn't there.

The parcel of land you are talking about was supposed to get the Walmart that is now at the Pleasant Grove exit. That was actually a Gary Combs project. He was then married to Carla Tyson. Yes, the sewer issues didn't actually get resolved until just a couple of years ago under my fraternity brother' time in the planning office in Lowell. He's moved on to Hutchinson KS. Anyway, the walmart deal fell through cause Gary couldn' stop running his mouth leaking the info. The sewer would have been taken care of af that time. That par el is somewhat elevated and not visable from 540 for the most part. Thag issue also cosf that parcel also cost Lowell  a new  a large scale car dealership.

Anywho. I would design it small but mighty at first buf with room to grow. Two of the beat places are alomg the interstate at Pleasant Grove whare the new Mega Hanks is at. Or along 540 in Springdale in fhe Arvest Ballpark area. Sprimgdale plans an interchans that will carry Don Tyson Parkway over 540 to the Ballpark area. Remember that very small golf course once there?  Another site is a complete ripoff of the Cowabunga Bay concept in Draper Utah at the parcel of land once used by the AMP at Northwest Arkansas Mall. It would utilize the existing parking lot for the most part and offer great views to the south of Fayetteville and stand above being highly visable in a heavy retail area. Just a little too far south to be perfect plus I know Fayetteville's plannimg would be the most difficult to deal with.

What they need to do is bring the White Water franchise up 35 miles to Springfield. I know that would hurt White Water a ton because I know a bunch of Springfield residents that are season ticket holders, BUT for the size the Springfield Metro is to not have a water park is just astounding. Even if it wasn't much, it would be wildly popular. There isn't jack squat to do in Springfield for kids.

Was thinking the same for NWA. I can think of a half dozen sites that would do the trick

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2013 Project
« on: July 26, 2012, 11:20:08 PM »
SDC. and yes, the talk at the time was the largest of the 3 projects would be a MM style heavily themed ride... and with the advancements they have made on the supports being used now for that style of coaster, I would say that the chances are better now than they were a few years ago.

So... who's excited to see what secrets hide in the woods. :)

A MM style ride is great considering that Gerstlauer seems to be getting this ride perfected, Still like my ideal that each carload gets in an elevator to go down the shaft only for it to be a 15 to 25 ft drop tower type thing that freefalls to actual loading platform. Sorry, wrong thread. I'm like you, we need something on rails where the feet dangle.

^I'd love them to build a new pier at Lake of the Ozarks.  I know, a little off topic, but still

Its a good idea but the COE would likely be absolutly or next to impossible to deal with.

Bubba Gump, Rainforest Cafe, T-Rex and Aquarium are all owned by Landrys. What else is that company doing these days? Oh they developed Kemah Boardwalk and Galvaston Pleasure Pier. What could use that type of redevelopement in Branson? (hint CC)

I have never been to any of those eateries. I almost went to a RC. It was in a mall, I want to say KC mall. Anyhow, the menu was outside and I saw the prices and my family walked away. This was when I was a kiddo. Even now I dont think I would pay to eat there. I cant imagine the food would be that amazing.......but I have been wrong before.

it's not so much about the food as it is the experience. We recently took the kids to the Aquarium at Opry Mills. The food wasn't fantsfic but servicable but the shark swiming by our table was   very cool. It's the experience that makes the cost easier to swallow.

So you think this will be part of the theme for VBS next year? Or just going to be in some of the material?

There's usually a couple of themes to chose from but this will be so cool if it really features SDC rides and knowing my kids have been on them.

Theme park operator Six Flags Entertainment Corp's second-quarter results sailed past Wall Street estimates, driven by higher in-park and ticket sales.

The company, established in 1961, said ticketing revenue rose 11 percent, while in-park sales were up 12 percent. Overall sales rose 11 percent to $375 million.

Six Flags had earnings of $72.2 million or $1.27 per share, compared with $35.0 million, or 62 cents per share, a year earlier.

Analysts on average were expecting the company to earn 62 cents per share on revenue of $351.73 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

The company has 19 parks across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Six Flags shares closed at $52.59 on Monday on the New York Stock Exchange

Bubba Gump would fit well.

They already have Joe's Crab Shack and White River Fish House.  How many seafood places do you need on the Landing... or did you mean at the Meadows?

didn't  Macaroni close down. Was there ever a Hooters or the rip off Showme down there before it was Shorty Smalls( which is gone now).

Oh you mean a POWERED turn.  My mistake. I was thinking that you meant a normal spinning coaster that was under the train that spins via physics not by being turned by computer.
it can be controlled or spins freely according to Mack. I think EuroMir at Europa is controlled where as Sierra Sidewinder at Knotts is free spin.  Same premise, just hanging from the rails.

Inverted as "hanging" from the track.  That's what inverted means.  Looping means, well it goes upside down.

Not sure what company you are talking about that has the spinning suspended coaster.  The link you had is not a spinning suspended coaster, it was the halfpipe that was Sega Joyland.

go to the 4 minute mark of rhat video. They have installed a gerstlauer launched spinning coaster with an inversion.
The suspended coaster that spins is a Mack concept

Saw on screamscape that Dollywooy is up in the teens percentage wise and six flags growth is up 12%.  Wonder what SDC's numbers given there was no major new attraction this year.

Branson Talk / Re: Disney Theme Park in Branson by 2014
« on: July 25, 2012, 10:27:10 AM »
True or not, if it ever does happen, I fear for SDC. Disney is way more popular and I'd be afraid SDC would lose all the guests...
I am obsessed (I mean, obsessed) with Disney, but I don't want a theme park in Branson. And knowing my family, they'd rather spend their time with Disney and I'd have to sneak away to SDC...

I believe it would increase length of stay and frequency of visits and all would benefit. I think the type of Disney attraction we are just spitballing isn't a full fledged theme park and not remotely close to happening.

I think a custom themed Vekoma family inverted coaster would work for the ICE HOUSE.
WDW is currently working on one themed to Monsters Inc for their Hollywood park.

inverted as in going upside down or suspended as in feet dangling with no floor. Either one is great. I love the Vecoma concept that has the waterbombs and would interact with water cannons from the ground. Mix that into the 2014 ideal and you get an incredible amount of attraction im a small footspace. One of the reputable companies has a suspended coaster concept that spins as well.
