Here is a couple of slide/pictures from 1961 of Old Matt's Cabin.  Made famous by the story of The Shepherd Of The Hills book.

Here is a slide/picture from 1961 of the swinging bridge and a picture of the view today.   This is how you could come into the city back then.  In this picture your back would be to Christmas Hollow, and parking would be where The Flooded Mine is today.

Call me crazy but I don't remember the second floor to the mill/mine.  Is this an office area now?

As far as I know this is still open and you still can go upstairs and eat.  At least it was the last time I ask about it. They only open this area up once in a while.....I presume when it is filled downstairs in Mollly's Mill Restaurant.  I have been told if you ask to eat upstairs they will accommodate you.  That probably depends upon who you ask and what mood they are in  :)

Here is a slide/picture from 1968 of the water wheel used for grinding at what was called the Stone-Burr Mill, and is now called Sullivan's Mill.  Also, a picture of what it looks like today.

Here is a slide/picture also from 1968 of an old tram picking up people to take to the main gate.   Probably didn't have to stay behind the white line in those days.......just load up.

Glad you have enjoyed looking at them DollarCityBoy!  As we get older our memories fade a little and we just can't remember the things we could before.   I remember trips to SDC in the 1960's and 70's when my mother would ask "why are you not taking your camera".   I remember thinking at the time I was not going to lug a camera around all day and waste my time.......it would just slow me down.  Boy do I wish I had listened to her!  There are a lot of pictures that were took in that time period, but finding them is another story.  Most have just been discarded I would say.  I don't believe I have ever seen a movie or pictures taken inside the old treehouse.....very rare.

So wait... There used to be a slide at the end of Huck Finn's Hideaway (As I knew it)? I remember the space room where it was all black with mirrors and christmas lights... That always freaked me out when I was a kid

And a Cannon shooting platform???!?!??! That would have been so cool to see. I remember when you were able to buy and shoot muskets. My dad actually bought one from there one year on vacation

Yes there was a slide at the end of Huck Finn's Hideway but when the slide was there it was called Herman The Hermit's Tree Top House.  The slide was not there for a long time.   Yes the slide came out of what you are calling the space room or infinity room which I think it was actually called.  You could exit by sliding out or finding the door if you were lucky.   It was fairly easy to get lost because of the maze you had to walk thru and  lack of lighting.

Here are a couple of pictures from 1968 of the cannon shoot platform that was just behind the church.  I believe there was a competition  between Union and Confederate soldiers. They would shoot  concrete filled oil cans at a target in the valley.

I was looking and found a picture of the slide at the end with someone coming down.  That looks to me like it could very well be the slide because where her right hand is sure looks the same in both pictures.  Maybe it wasn't always at this location?
