^^ Okay Gilligan....that explains it.  I thought for a moment I was losing it once again  :)

It became a problem a year or so ago when someone convinced the county they wanted to put in stores, spas, attractions, etc., but they needed a stoplight and entry to get people interested in coming there.  The stoplight was horrible because there was no visual clearance and there were many mishaps.  You'll notice the stoplight has been pulled - thank GOD! - and now there's been no mention of the new business area.

I thought these stop lights were put in just after the land was put up for auction and sold, which the article says was in 2017.  I do know that I haven't been through that area since Dec of 2019 and they had been up for a long time before that.

I actually never remember the lights being functional and working ever.  The framework for the lights with turn lanes were there for a very long time, but I just can't remember the lights being in working order because there was nothing ever put in for them to be used for.

Planning to go for the second time on Friday.  Hope it ends up a better experience than the visit last week.  All our kids were disappointed that they barely got to ride anything.

Can you clarify something?

Was this your first visit ever, or the first this year?

I want to apologize applegbt.   I took your post to mean you had visited the park one time and was about to visit your second time.

You don't need me to tell you that every trip can be a different experience  :)

I wouldn't say it has been a disaster for them since everyone says the park has been packed.  Now if they continue to have long lines and waits I could see that being a problem.

My post was for someone that has never been before or just made one trip to the park and made their judgement by that one day.  I am myself still impressed with SDC unless the charm and quality of the place would continue to decline.

^Sure a first visit leaves an impression....every visit leaves an impression.   The factors in the park change daily from weather to attendance, and the covid restrictions should be expected for awhile.  A little later on you won't have to constantly count on the rides when shops and a few more shows open up.

Just don't let all your bad impressions for one day leave a thought that every day is going to be that way.   A visit on another day might be a completely different experience for you.

It's really almost impossible to judge the park by just one visit with all the factors to consider.   You do not go into much detail in why you were disappointed and not impressed, except it sounds like you thought it was too crowded.

If you are lucky enough to get to the park on a nice weather weekday and stay away from the weekends it should be a better experience for you, your family, and friends.

If they went down that road an IPO might be in the future.

I have thought about that many times over the years.  It seems like every year and purchase gets them that much closer to an IPO.  It may not happen in the near future but eventually after the brothers are out of the picture I definitely could see this happening.

Who knows how they stand financially across the board after this last year but you would think they took a pretty good jolt.

I am sure you will be able to pick this up any time next year.  They always have some extras that they have for sale for awhile......usually $10.  If you can't wait just keep an eye on ebay, I am sure some will pop up sooner or later.

I don't think that 10% was on the other passes before.  It looks like they have just recently added it to the other passes.
Possibly they got a little negative feedback when they were just going to give a discount to Gold passholders.

Here is the email I received when I asked about food discount and rollover.  It sounds and looks like to me that the only food discount is on the Gold Pass.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your email. And, please accept our apologies as we weren’t able to respond to your email in a timely manner.

It is correct that the food discounts (20% off Full-Priced Food and Beverages) is a benefit only available to those who purchase the Gold Pass. Here is a link that lists all of the season pass holder discounts by pass https://www.silverdollarcity.com/Tickets/Season-Passes

And, if you have a 2020 season pass that you have not used by the end of the 2020 season, we will automatically roll those passes over and mail to you between January 18 and March 20.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance! Thank you!

Stephanie

You would think a parent showing the Gold Pass would be enough to get the discount.  It is pretty obvious the parent is paying for the food & drink.  Just can't imagine a cashier asking each family member to show what kind of pass they have to know what to charge.

At first they were having you fill out a small questionaire but now you do not even need to do that.  If you did not use your season pass it will rollover automatically and you should receive it or them between January 18 and March 20, 2021.

I have always told myself SDC knows what they are doing and knows what will work and not work.  But it just amazes me that it has took this long to come up with an online store.  It really seems this was a no-brainer and should have been done at least 10 years ago if not longer.

Now if they will just come up with some retro t-shirts and other apparel and not just ball caps they might just be in business.

I think I read somewhere they are talking about the trailblazer pass and photo cards and a few other things when talking about "premium On-Park Experiences".

They have gradually cut down the bring a friend over the last few years.  I was just comparing BAF from 2020 to 2021 with early purchase of season pass (looks like no difference).

I believe there might be a pretty big complaint when season pass holders realize they are not getting any food discounts for 2021.  I believe this and the gold pass is probably an income makeup for last year.  I mean when you take a 10% discount away on all food purchased by season pass holders...that is quite a bit of income.

But then again a 20% discount on the gold pass would be pretty nice if you made enough trips and ate at the city a lot.
