Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC Resort Survey
« on: November 14, 2023, 01:36:51 PM »
I didn’t get one.

However, our family can not wait for SDC to finally build a resort. If it is anything like the DreamMore it will be awesome. Even though we love about 40 minutes from SDC, if the average room price was in the $199-$250 range we would do around 4 staycations a year there.

Can someone post some pictures of the survey. I want to know what it looks like.

Given the timetable (I was told by SDC staff during Coaster Christmas that most of the original theming and props will be transferred to the new ride to save time and $$$) they will likely need 2-3 weeks to clear out both the maintenance area and the theming assets from the old structure. So expect mid-late January for the demo.

Interesting. I believe we originally heard the only thing going to be recycled rom the original ride was the mural of the burning of Marmaros. So, are they reusing more of the old ride?

One thing I'd like to see them do: is to have an exhibit to walkthrough in the ride queue. It could contain displays about the town of Marmaros, the guano mining in Marble Cave, and the Bald Knobbers. It could also contain original display pieces from the original Fire-in-the-Hole.

Otherwise, what is the latest on what SDC will do with architectural pieces of the old ride? Are there still rumors of a possible auction to sell some of the old ride?

...with Lake Silver gone (even if temporarily), that is a very large footprint capable of accommodating just about anything HFEC would want to put there. Also, outside of retaining natural aesthetics, what value would incorporating a newer Lake Silver hold? This is awfully valuable real estate to have a lake with no purpose. I'm not insinuating anything. As long as we're still speculating, I'm simply wondering if the entire cleared footprint will be utilized for whatever attraction is in the works for '20, or they're clearing everything to make way for the attraction, which will include some newer iteration of Lake Silver, if that makes sense.

Lake Silver is not just a fish pond. It is a geological feature, far older than Silver Dollar City. Surely the engineers know it is not a good place to build. It would create severe drainage problems if the lake were covered up. It is also a historical feature that should be kept. I really don't expect to see Lake Silver pass away.

Okay, so the leadership is very sensitive to politically correct comments. My thought is do they give equal consideration to other comments? Let's say they have 3 complaints about the guns. Then during the same time period, they have 557 complaints about SDC becoming too sensitive to political correctness. Would they give weighted consideration to that? Would they even consider that folks are turned off by all the political correctness? Or do the people who are turned off by the political correctness not even realizing that they have to say something?

This discussion caught my attention because I happen to be the person who took those photos. They are not really that old. To be precise, they were taken in March 2016. I had a nice little talk with the hobos that day. They are doing fine and just want to be left alone. Actually, they have not moved very far away. So, I promised not to reveal their secret hiding place.

I guess depends on your definition og “not ... very far away” — let’s just agree they’re nowhere near the park anymore or even Taney County.

Let's just say that they were in the park in 2016. Evidently, you have seen them elsewhere since then. I hope they haven't been mistreated.

Does anyone think there is ANY chance of this new ride going through Marvel cave or its tunnels?

No, that is ridiculous. There are no know cave passages beneath that area. It looks to me like the cave might have extended into that area in pre-history. If it did, It has all collapsed and eroded away many, many years ago.

Talk like that is what, we in the Ozarks, refer to as "pullin' yer leg." I really don't think they revealed any hidden secrets. (It wasn't the notorious dippin-dots guy was it?) Engineers who design major major amusement park rides know what they are doing. In fact, they can be sued for large amounts of money if they mess up. I'm sure they have drilled core samples all over that hillside to be sure of the geology beneath their feet. No known passages of the cave are beneath that area. If there were EVER any passages there, they have collapsed and eroded away millions of years ago, leaving a steep hillside. I don't believe there is any chance of a cave tour being interrupted by a roller coaster train crashing down on them.

Come on over and check out the new Facebook group: Little Town of Marmaros. We will be discussing the history of Marvel Cave and the Marble City/Marmaros/Notch community before it was Silver Dollar City.

The area of the waterfall would not be a good place to build a ride or structure. It sits in a low place that may be a sinkhole, possibly a geological feature associated with the cave. My opinion is that it should be left as a waterfall or maintained as a natural wooded area.

One of reasons folks choose to go to SDC is because of the natural beauty of the hills. They may enjoy riding the train but they are also looking out into the woods and getting a peaceful, relaxing feeling from that. If the park were to loose its "atmosphere" then it wouldn't be the same. It would just be another "Six Flags" type of park. I believe Mary Herschend understood that very well. In addition to the rides, crafts, shopping, and entertainment, I believe there should always be an accommodation of nature.

Contract has been signed, site plotted and looks like 2017 WILL be our year for a new coaster!

Okay, what the heck is this all about? Suddenly, several replies have appeared hinting at something big but no one is offering any details. Does anyone know anything specific about a new coaster?

This is the first I've heard about "Founder's Weekend" and I can't find much on details by searching the internet. Does anyone know what it's all about and what events they have planned?

You had me really worried there with your first post. When I was growing up, the word naturist meant the same thing as "nudist." I was really wondering what SDC might be planning. ;D

They shut the ride down if there is lighting within a 10 mile radius. So, it can be shut down for a long time on rainy days.
