Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2020 Project (Thread #2)

Just get your band geeks to tighen up that figure 8 for the first half time performance everyone goes to the bathroom during except the proud band geek parents.

Words from the truly ignorant... I see why Six Flags is right up your ally! Poor costumer service, crappy food and no character or pride in their park would seem to fit your personality!  I'd prefer you go there anyway!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: New engine(s) status

I'm not familiar enough with them to really recognize one from the other, but I believe the new one is going into service soon. There's another one on display across from the station.

They were using some of the old passenger cars yesterday, which I thought was strange.

The one on display is the davenport that was an original SDC engine.  I love being able to see it and they were using the old train cars on Wed. and Thurs. which I love... Makes me all toasty inside!  :)

So first impressions... Fun ride, not very thrilling, but fun. Everything looks pretty nice, but I'm not totally any of it really "makes sense". Time Traveler is impressively mild given the sum of it's elements. After the drop it feels like Firechaser with a couple of loops thrown in. Listening to everyone watching though it may as well be Top Thrill Dragster. It's the family coaster most kids are too scared to ride.

It works well for me though, I like the softer experience these days. Outlaw Run is still awesome, but I can only do it so much. This is a great blend of fun and whimsy with just enough thrill to give it some flavor.

The area up top is nicely done. A bit plain, and some of the signage looks like it came from worlds of fun, but the effort put in to bring in new mature trees is great. You can't tell where the old path was. I just don't get why it was worth the trouble for them. It is set up a bit better logistically, but there's not really any added room. The parade will be tough through here....

Time Traveler's station is a bit on the plain side. There's a couple spots of interesting theming, but most of it is indeed blank space as I had earlier feared. Overall there's enough cool stuff to look at that it matches the effort from Outlaw Run and looks adequate, but I was hoping for a bit more.

All in all, it's nice and uniquely SDC.

As far as the new setup is concerned. Have they alleviated the problems of the skillet lines backing up into the main thoroughfare ? If that has been accomplished especially during peak days I think it would be a win.

It does not seem to me that is has.  Seems worse but that is probably just the increased crowds in that area.  Maybe it will calm down eventually. I will say they have just about buried FM behind all that.  You can't really see it anymore and would not even know it was there unless you were walking to the train and happened to look over.

Funny thing about FM is that ridership was up this past week.

We were up opening day and had to wait in line for FM for the first time in a long time.  Was actually a popular choice!  I think FM and TNT are both going to be up this year as people gravitate toward them either waiting for TT riders or simply because they are near by.

Next you'll tell us there is no Santa Claus!  :'(  I'd like to see The Pinkerton Man come back to replace the Wild West Show but with Time Traveler next to Echo Hollow I'm not sure that will happen.

Well technically there is no Santa Claus after December 23rd at Silver Dollar City

Good Grief!  I had to zoom in 200% on my desk top to even see that!

If you seriously think that SDC is worried about the Christmas Festival being "passed up" your crazy.  Have you seen those crowds the last few years?!?

I would say that Michael is certianly involved because you can see his bus in the bottem of this shot.  Pretty cool shot too

I completely agree with Chittlens on this and as I live in East Texas, am an Arkansas Alumi and graduated HS in Rogers, I would put I-49 at the top on that list, seconded the completion of 412!  I drove to Branson this weekend on a whim and I-49 would cut that trip by a minimum of 1 1/2 hours.

Oh and Little Rock Games are gone within 2 years.....but that is a topic for a different forum!   8)

Annnnyyyywayyyyy.... I had the opportunity to meet an awesome lady at a recent convention that works in the Sales and Marketing Dept. for DS and told she me that the new video boards are truly amazing.  She tells it that the trees look like you could pull leaves right off of them and that it allows for some amazing background views. Almost 3D.  I am really looking forward to seeing it this season!   :o

If I had to guess I'd say the station area will be past PK's first hill.
There is a reason why nothing will be out over by the waterfall but I'm not sure how common knowledge it is - so I'll refrain.

Swoosh, that's not nice!  :)

Mine are 4 - 6 or 7 depending on what group is up for a section rehearsal!  We also have to balance our time around East Texas heat.  110 degrees and marching fundamentals are no fun!

I taught in NW Arkansas all of my career until 2 years ago made "the" movie to a small town in East Texas.  Great move for us.  We are headed for Branson in two weeks.  It and SDC are the one thing we miss terribly!  Who ever said band directors get summers off....  ;D

We need to meet Swoosh!  We have two great things in common... Band Directing Awesome Kids and a love of SDC!
