General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Manby raids Herchend
« on: February 24, 2016, 08:45:30 PM »
I saw last week that Manby canned a few of the key higher ups at Sea World. I'll bet they offered him a huge, HUGE chunk of money to come heal their woes.

Small changes to look for-
The Strawberries and Cream building has been completely rebuilt and upgraded.
There is no change in the color scheme of the Opera House that I'm aware of.
The porch of the Playhouse behind the hotdog stand is being revamped.
Some of the old decrepit towers on top of the Flooded Mine have been removed before they fall down.
The tower entrance to the Lumbercamp restaurant has been rebuilt.

I'm curious to see whether the new Mean Murphy show resembles to old one in anything other than name only.

The role of George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life" is played by Adam Henry.

Random Talk / Re: Singer Ray Price died
« on: December 16, 2013, 11:04:38 AM »
CMT reported that yesterday, but apparently it's a bit premature.  Later reports say Price is in rapidly declining health, but not dead yet.

Makes me think of Monty Python's "Bring out your dead...bring out your dead"  "I'm not dead yet."  "Yes, but you will be soon."  "But I'm not dead yet."  THUMP!  "Pile him on the wagon with the rest of them."

I'm sure it will be a fascinating project, MoOzark!  I've bookmarked it.  Best of luck with it!

Sorry to say this, but I believe that they cut it up into pieces and scrapped it.

My 36 y/o sister-in-law, Harmony Foster, passed away on the same day as Thatcher and Funicello.  She was another strong woman, having beaten back cancer for ten years before finally losing the battle.  She left behind a husband and five kids.  She'll be missed.

Hmmm. I must have inadvertently made a change to my photobucket account that rendered these pics invisible.  I'll have to check that out.

Edit-- There...fixed.  I had moved them to a different folder after posting them here, which made the previous link invalid.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Young Christians Weekend 2013
« on: April 07, 2013, 06:49:52 PM »
Hey, we had a wonderful weekend for YCW 2013 at SDC.  The weather was beautiful, the crowds were large, and the entertainment was great.  I spent my time in Echo Hollow...long days, but the Lord blessed us mightily.  Here are a few representative pics.

Friday night's talent was the Rhett Walker Band.  They were terrific.

For events such as this we often contract a production company to provide shade/rain cover and extra lighting for the concerts.  SDC#1fan was on that crew this time and was our light jockey.  Great job, Kevin.  Thank you for all your help.

Saturday's rally featured David Crowder Band, and Shay Robbins from Kanakuk Kamp.

Sunday's service featured Leeland, and of course, Joe White.

We were also privileged to be able to hear our entertainment manager, Mike Hefley's, daughter sing.  She did very well.

Mike

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for a wonderful weekend.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Outlaw Run. . .

I'm a bit confused about the "no cubbies" complaints.  When I got on the ride, I took my iPhone out of my pocket and handed it to the attendant, who then placed it in a cubicle on the exit side of the load station.  I wish I had given him my glasses as well.

I found the bar that crosses at the shins to be a bit uncomfortable and I'm only 6' tall.  I can't imagine someone who is 6'4" or better, those with a longer femur in their upper legs, being able to fit at all.  But I didn't feel unsafe.  I know that the lap restraint system was tested at the RMC home site, with 300lb+ people hanging upside down and found to be quite adequate.  I believe the reasoning in using the lap restraint system rather than a shoulder restraint was to enhance the feeling of freedom and of "danger."  It would seem that that was accomplished in your cases.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2013 Project

Oh my lands!!!  All I can say is this ride is awesome.  The first drop nearly straight down 160' is probably the mildest part of the ride.  After that you are twisting and turning, arcing and plunging, right side up and up side down, nonstop until the end.  Not a moment to relax.  I was more than ready to get off.  Nearly lost my glasses so if you wear them, strap them to your head or take them off.  I rode Wildfire three times in a row before it opened...not this one...it was too intense.  But in a good way.  Hope you all enjoy it!

Tomorrow...the press will be here in the morning and given their first-hand Outlaw Run experience.  Then, in the afternoon, employees will have the opportunity to ride for the first official time (some employees have already ridden it)...YeeHaw...can't wait for 1:00 to roll around.
