Title: Paula Deen's Restaurant Opening Day?
Post by: MCLFLN on May 20, 2019, 08:12:30 AM
Any word on when it will be opening?

Also, anyone ever been to another of her restaurants? If so, what did you think?

will be a while yet,  they are working on hiring staff very soon..   But a ways to go on building..

Never have been to one of hers, But seems way overated.
good food is good food
A good Buffet is a good Buffet.

I will continue eating at locally owned places.. Try to keep the money in town.

I would like to try the restaurant but when looking at the menus from other locations I noted no dinner prices and limited menu choices, less than cracker barrel but same format.  Video from the website makes dining experience (facilities) look very standard almost Ihop, generic look.  We will see, it would be great to have another viable dinner choice.

From what I understand, its something like 17.99 a person. You get to choose ONE protein for a table of 4 with 4 (??) sides. Thats it. I believe its all you can eat. NOT a buffet. NOT a menu. It is what it is. I wont eat there. That is a ton of cash for my family. Especially per person.

Ouch!  Thats higher than Golden Coral without the selection ( I said nothing about quality).
This is a bitter pill, maybe they will adjust the prices for the area.  I think thats a little high for the off season dont you think?  Maybe catch the tourists but on the landing they have to keep cranking during the winter.  They are going to have a hard time.  I wish them well

they dont care about locals..
They are building it at that location to get tourist money..
if the locals buy thats ok too..
The company will get a big shock next jan-march.   LOL

Anything new this season that is worth checking out?

For something she said 30-40 years ago apparently.  As far as that goes I say racist things! if you are using the modern barometer to measure that.  In this world of "taking offence" none of us are safe.  I choose to ignore that stuff less I become one of the crowd, a minion.  I am not worried about PC culture.  Paula should worry about her prices but that racist crap is old news.

I hear good things about the Mellow Mushroom coming to the Landing. I have never been to any of the locations so I would not know first hand. I am excited to at least try it......unless its a PD cost.

I was at Mellow Mushroom in Gatlinburg,  I was there during the afternoon and found it to be Pizza Hut like.  The atmosphere seemed to be a little "House of Blues "  with pop art and a groovy vibe.  It may have been more about the beer than the pizza or thats how it felt.  Might be a great little meeting place for Branson.

Mellow mushroom is OK. Nothing extraordinary. Just another pizza chain. Lots of good beer choices though which is good. Ill keep my business at Reeds Springs for Pizza.

It’s called Family Style Dining - think Lamberts.  Also they have a restaurant already in Pigeon Forge so they know what they’re doing.

I wish them well but by the odds they stand a good chance of folding on the Landing.  Why ?  Look at those that have attempted the same thing. Many chains with more resources and backing have folded before them.   Branson dries up so much its a tough market during the colder months.  I believe they have to feed off the locals to some extent to maintain during the winter, the landing is a tough location for locals.

ok folks, yes 17.99 is alot of money but, i don't mind paying for good food.  I have eat at the one in Pigeon forge.  each person chooses a protein and two sides and a dessert.  They will refill all of the choices as often as you can eat it.  there is no doggy bags.  So the family style means everyone can share everybody's  choices.

^^  Agreed..    Local people will eat at local places in the off season,  IF nothing else becasue it is local, cheaper, and the food probably just as tasty..

Looks like another eat till you barf place to me. I shy away from these type restaurants, buffets and all you can eat kicks. I'd rather pay 17.99 or whatever it is to a local establishment that prepares fresh food to order. I do not need all you can eat. One plate is enough.

I tend to agree with you on that,
BUT IF and when I do a buffet I eat at Grand Country Buffet,  But my main reason is they have an awesome salad bar with LOTS of goodies..  that is typically my meal, then i get meat and taters for dessert... :D

Let’s be honest - most of you won’t be the target demographic, much like you won’t be staying at the Hilton

As a local, I can attest to this. I'd much rather go local as often as possible to support those trying to make it around here. Some of my favorites locally are the Hollister Hacienda location, India Clay Oven, Mr. Gilberti's, and Japanese Kitchen. Although the off peak season is the best time to hit the restaurants that cater more towards the tourists since you don't have to fight the crowds and traffic.

Uhhh, I frequently stay at the Hilton or one of the other Hilton properties when I am there.  But that is when I am working.  When it is on my dime I will be staying at the Ozark Valley.

Your right about that..  If they are relying on my demographic......  They will be closed in 6 months... LOL..

Of course as far as that goes.. If it were up to me,  .. the landing would have been closed years ago. ::)

The target audience was unable to keep many restaurants in business here before, too many to be soaly a operational problem.  The landing does not appeal to a lot of folks and the hotel obviously is not enough.

Good point MH,..

There have been many "nice" "quality" restauraunts come and go at the landing.

Many other place also, old chicago comes to mind..   I would go there to eat and partake in an adult beverage from time to time, always like their balcony/porch dining area.  But alas, it didnt make the cut either.

It is excellent Okie. Its my favorite Indian restaurant that I've been to. Also one of my favorite restaurants overall. Service is really good and so is the food. I usually go for dinner as opposed to the lunch buffet. Little pricey but worth it. Now I need to go back again lol.

Personal recommendation would be either chicken or shrimp korma. Its a little sweeter and not very hot, not that much at ICO is hot since they're a northern Indian style restaurant. Southern Indian will be very hot. Tikka Masala and butter chicken are also favorites of mine.

I haven't had the buffet there before, the Indian buffets I've had before were good but the individual meals are better. But you can't go wrong giving them a try

If it's cooking like the TV show with tons of butter and added fat. Me either.  But, I tend to avoid all chain restaurants.

I would call it a chain. Pretty sure its like Margaritaville. Run by a outside company and she gets royalties. There were several more locations a couple years ago before they folded up in Texas.

I was at the Hilton Anatole last week in Dallas for 2 days.

Anyway on to Paula Deen.  Just got back to the hotel after eating there.  We arrived at around 5:15 and the place was busy but not packed like I would suspect it would be on a weekend.  We were seated in about 20 minutes.  Food was decent but not breathtaking.  We ordered the meatloaf, chicken and dumplins, and the catfish with mashed potatoes, green beans, yams, and broccoli casserole.  The meatloaf was good.  dumplins were OK, catfish was ok but kind of soggy.  The sides were good except for the broccoli, it was mostly huge stems where were very hard and undercooked.  Very little greenery.  The menu said nothing about drink prices so I assumed it came with it.  We had tea and when the bill came it turns out drinks are $3.50.  WOW.  Bill after $9 tip was $67 for 2 people.  Sure glad it was a business dinner and I was not paying.  I can now say I have been there and have no need to go back.

Yea, all the meals come with desert.  I got the chocolate cake which I took back to the hotel and ate later.  BTW, they have nothing to go, so if you have food leftover you can't take it with you, it gets thrown away.  They do not even have to go cups to take with you after spending $3.50 on a drink.  If you do go, get water.

Well this IS an upscale dining restaurant, not a chain restaurant.  Very few (if any) upscale dining restaurants have "doggie bags" and "to-go cups"

If there are no to go boxes how did you take the cake back to the hotel? Did they have paper napkins?
