Premise of the thread is simple, see something interesting that related to fun but doesn't really need it's own thread.
I'll start it. For the steam punk fans, a mall in Quebec City is calling out for you.

Love the corkscrew station fly through on this new Vekoma in Poland.

Rest of the theming is good too. European Parks are really stepping up the theming game across the board.
Ride looks fun

Anyone catch the news that a Margaritaville is coming to Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri? It will surely be a major change for the lakefront. Any thoughts?

We bit on the third day incentives to sit through a time share pitch at Wyndam Governer's Green in Williamsburg(very nice by the way) and they were pimp g the Margaritavilla resort under construction in Orlando, It's going to be nice.
It is a shame it's not Branson . Every time I cruise by The .Grand, I think The Island at Pigeon Forge with the Margaritaville hotel.
-
It's not being acquired - it's going to be a partnership. The renovations to the guest rooms will begin immediately but the hotel will not be officially rebranded as "Tan-Tar-A, a Margaritaville Resort" until March 2019.
Considering so many teacher conferences are held at TTA it will be interesting to see if that changes as I am sure some districts might not be too keen on sending their employees to a resort called Margaritaville. Me, I work at a Catholic school. No problem there. ;)

Not just teacher conferences. Missouri high school state archery tournament is there as well, along with other events for high school students. Not sure that change will go over so well there.

Well the resort has needed upgrades for awhile so I'm all for this. The food will definitely become a lot better. I like that they're addressing the parking issues too. Sounds like a new parking garage will be added up by the Racquet Club

This looks simply amazing. The level of immersion looks like it will definitely be on par with the WWOHP. I can't even begin to fathom the amount of money Disney is going to make off of these new lands. I've heard rumors of a Star Wars themed hotel to be placed near DHS as well, with rates nearing $1,000/night. I can't imagine paying that much for a hotel but I know there are major Star Wars and Disney enthusiasts who wouldn't hesitate.

Thanks. I like how the Tan-Tar-A name will remain. But as everyone else has said, I think the Margaritaville name will detract from several organizations wanting to hold their conferences at the resort.

Link to all the Disney Parks announcements at D23 Expo. I would love to visit Galaxy's Edge in 2019 when it opens, however, I think the crowds will be insane and I will get more bang for my buck in 2021 when all the 50th anniversary enhancements are made. So, I really need to start saving up for the 50th anniversary trip in 2021. After years of nothing but stagnation, it's great to see that Disney is finally investing in the US parks again. So many cool things they just announced!
-
Well it's not like Disney had a choice anymore Universal has been kicking their tails for several years now. I don't think it's any coincidence that as soon as the new HP ride featuring a launched coaster using motorbikes like Hagrid's gets leaked that the TRON coaster gets confirmed.
-
^Completely agree that Universal is the cause behind all the improvements at WDW. I think the competition between the two resorts is a great thing and the fans can only benefit.

The good news is that both Star Wars Lands (Disneyland and Studios) have the same attractions and will open within 6 months of each other. The hotel at Studios will come a bit later.
-
I agree that it will help both coasts opening at the same time. But crowds will still be insane. This is the biggest franchise in the world.

They might as well start planning for expansions and phase 2 for Star Wars Land now

Where?
My whole contention with Star Wars from the day Disney said they would put the IP in the parks was that it warranted a gate all by it's lonesome. It even would have made more sense with the immersive hotel deal.

They could put Degobah in Animal Kingdom but The CEO only wants the new Canon used I guess.
Which brings me to Animal.Kingdom, love to see an Australian section added with a dark attraction within a forced scale of Ayers Rock/Uluru

Alright....I do not keep up with Disney stuff....help me with the highlights.
Is Star Wars going to be it's own new park? When/where? Are they still doing the once rumored Aviator park? Toy Story Land? Are they ever doing the Cars world at WDW like they did in CA?
My the one week I did do WDW 5-6 years ago was pretty overwhelming. As amazing as the themes, attraction, and hotels are....the crowds where stressful for me. Week for of entertainment and stress. I gave my kids the option to vacation at WDW or Universal this year but they all overwhelmingly wanted to do cruise instead. All that being said....I still may go again with the right additions.

Spread the 4 parks out over 5 to 7 days. Do just Disney and stay on resort (rent a dvc unit) or do what we did. Split you stay into two DVC rentals(one for Wilderness for the boat ride into Disney and monorail connection to Epcot.and one at Animal Kingdom lodge for AK and just drive to or Bus to Studios and water parks plus there's a side road that dumps you out into Kissimmee's main drag.
Do the rest of Orlando in separate trip.
Toy Story Land is going into DHS, opens next summer.
They added a track to Toy Story Mania, building a Slinky Dog Launch Coaster and a clone of the Mater's ride at Cars land themed to the aliens.
Star Wars is also going into DHS, it is much larger land wise than Toy Story. The hotel will be built adjacent to it.
2/3rd of Studio is under the knife.
I think they should have included a couple more Toy Story Themed flats. A double deck carousel with all the characters would have been nice and a mother and child eater
This shows toy story on the bottom and star wars up top

A thing I found out is if you sign up for a Disney DVC pitch on a cruise, they give you 6 fast passes for your days at WDW. I am going to take full advantage of that. We have been eyeing buying enough DVC points in the aftermarket to fund a weekly trip every Three years off of renting out the points we don't use. Around 300 we figure. But we want to get the perks of buying directly. So we are eyeing a minimum purchase into DVC directly from Disney (copper creek)
The wife and I are thinkin ahead to grandkids and Orlando also is becoming a good place to fly internationally from with the rise of LCC long haul operators like Norweigian and even Emirates to really far destinations.

So I guess 2020 is the date for star wars land? I'm surprised they didn't do the full new park for it.....always thought DHS would be fine if they just made it the hollywood/pixar land.
We stayed at the resort and only did disney that week with 3 little ones. We used the buses, took advantage of the early/late hours, and made the months in advance reservations. I was kind of a pain to plan. I can't imagine staying offsite and dealing with the traffic/parking every day. We did a week of Universal and all the non-disney stuff before kids. If it wasn't for Star Wars land....and the kids prefer Disney. I'd probably only want to go back to see Universal and its many upgrades again.

We are doing a 3 night Disney Cruise for Spring Break. We are flying into Tampa, hitting up Busch Gardens that afternoon and spend the night in Tampa. We may go back to Busch if we missed anything that Sat and head to Orlando mud afternoon, we will spend three days at Universal and two at Discovery Cove/Sea World . On the day we do Discovery Cove, we'll hit up Animal Kingdom around 2 or 3 ish and check out the place at night and do Avatar, the New River of Light show and hopefully ride the safari at night and get in Everest in the Dark. We'll just use fast passes for the avatar rides and the new night time safari. On the day we board at Canveral(signing up for a later boarding time like 1:30) we'll do Kennedy Space Center in the AM and eat at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville for lunch.
I refuse to pay what Atlantis wants for Aquaventure in Nassau especially since we are doing Volcano Bay and possibly Aquatica and doing the dolphins and now, the sharks at Discovery Cove. So maybe the Forts and chill on the ship. Looking forward to Castaway Bay.
When we get back, we'll head to WDW and Wilderness Lodge, do the presentation and get to WDW with six fast passes. there's nothing really new except for the fireworks show but my Mother will be on the cruise and return part of the trip with us and She's not been since 88. Next morning, Epcot till about about 2:30 and we head to Orlando
We plan on visiting Studios when it's all done as well as Nintendo Land at Uni.

That sounds like an exiting trip....have a co-worker who just come back from their 2nd Disney cruise. He has a very spoiled only child that has already been to DW DL and 2 cruises and he is only 6....lol I looked at them but went with a Royal Caribbean ship at 1/4th the price (1/2 the cruise price and no airfare needed). I even compared the trips with my kids and they wanted to go with RC.

They have a really nice ship out of Galveston now.
I wonder with 3 new ships coming if Disney puts one there year round. They get ore for those than they do from the Florida ports. I see them trying Asia with their parks there. Basically three ports, three parks. hoping for more European inteneraries.
Of course, I think they need to get in on the River Boat growth with a boat for the Mississippi. now that's Steamboat Willy and Walt Old School right there. IF they could develop a little private Tom and Huck themed water park along the route for a day stop, that would rock.
I'm eyeing the new MSC ships and their Cay that they are developing.
Hate to say it but the new Carnival ship like very fun for kids.
-
Haven't tried Carnival yet....they seem to have a reputation of just being a booze cruise for party goers which I'm not. That being said I'm happy they are going back into Mobile....I've got family there and might take advantage of that. Was hoping another line would try out Mobile too.

I said the new ships, the other are still pretty much booze cruises out of ports like New Orleans, Tampa and so on.

We are cruising out of mobile in November. Have you seen their prices?! If we took the kids (which we aren't this time), a 5 day in an ocean view is $199 a person during the off season. Even suites are affordable when you cruise out of mobile.
-
Owa down in Gulf Shores AL is now open. It's worth noting that there is already a small water park nearby that also has a wooden coaster. I'm not super impressed by the park's offerings just yet, but it's a nice start and is beginning to be a good area to run through for coaster credits and the beach. If they hang on and expand a bit in a few years I'll be headed that way.
-
We drove by OWA on a trip down there over the holidays during the family visit. I've been watching it cause I'm sure I'll get to check it out in the future.
$199 for oceanview is almost too cheap....lol. I'm going to wait and see if the kids like cruising and If I can't get an unbelievable on-board deal with RC on this trip I may 'jump ships' and try one out of Mobile.

Drove right by the place this summer, would have stopped had this been there.

The world needs more coaster lime this.
Something like this would be a nice small scale addition to SDC . Manby signed off on this and Invadr at Busch Gardens. I bet we would have seen something like this had he staped with Herschend.

Looks very similar to Triple Hurricane/ Coaster Saurus at Cypress Gardens/ Legoland. Fun little coaster, and should be a great addition.
Always loved Oscar. I sympathized with him a lot. He's just misunderstood a lot. :-P

I agree 1000%
Fritz was a bit too extreme on the ropes course and climbs for some of my family, the telephone poles and big ladder were where the less daring spent most of their time...but the whole family was done with the place in just over an hour. I want to go back to test my physical improvement - but the family doesn't have an interest.
Maybe had the "storm pipes" and other maze climbs/slides been bigger, longer (similar to the stuff at City Museum) it would be a must stop for the family.

What blows my mind about that is the looney tunes and flintstones theme. So much money around characters that I don't know even have shows anymore. I know my kids aren't exactly begging to watch this stuff....or buy it. I think Snoopy is more relevant to kids these days. My father-in-law still loves his toones though...so maybe that for the adults and the superheros are for the kids now.

This is really amazing. I just love doing funny things.

Just thinking out loud here...
What would you guys think if SDC were to remove Lost River and put in an upgraded version like Infinity Falls at Sea World Orlando? That drop with an elevator lift looks like it is going to be something else and I think it would go over great with the SDC park visitors.
*disclosure* I am not saying Lost River will be removed, I just saw recent photos on Twitter of Infinity Falls and thought that it looks like it will be an amazing ride and then thought how awesome it would be to have a version of it closer to home

It does look cool. It is an Intamin.
I was staring at the water bogging tower yesterday and wished they would .a non looping family coaster there. It would make good superstructure for faux rock work.

A family inverted would go well there in that lot and could be themed to FL.

Definitely not against the proposal. I think American Plunge needs a major refurb before Lost River, however.

lol, hint hint.
To answer the question, I wouldn't be all that terribly excited. Lost River is nice as it is. It's not the best rapids ride out there, but it's better than many and is still very popular. I understand that there are apparently safety/operational issues with it's antiquated boats and station setup, but going to the expense of completely replacing it with a new ride would be money wasted, IMO. Then again, they are probably loosing water out of it just like most other water rides in the park... probably needs a new channel at this point anyway.
I think Infinity Falls is an example of kind of needlessly pushing the limits though... the tower will probably cause operational problems and downtime, and the big drop will make it less family friendly. Rapids Rides should be simple fun, IMO. It's nice to take the entire family onboard and only have the thrill of potentially getting super wet. Leave the big drops to flume rides.
At least it has high through-put.

Just thinking out loud here...
What would you guys think if SDC were to remove Lost River and put in an upgraded version like Infinity Falls at Sea World Orlando? That drop with an elevator lift looks like it is going to be something else and I think it would go over great with the SDC park visitors.
*disclosure* I am not saying Lost River will be removed, I just saw recent photos on Twitter of Infinity Falls and thought that it looks like it will be an amazing ride and then thought how awesome it would be to have a version of it closer to home
lol, hint hint.

So, I was standing in line for Time Traveler this past Sun and the family ahead of me were from somewhere near Purdue University in Indiana and their son who was 8ish was in line and Time Traveler wad to be his first coaster...ever. Fairly interesting. He was in row 6 and we were in row 7 and we got to see his expression at the first launch. Truley classic.
Seems they have reduced the delay from stopping to launch
At the first one and the launches seemed a bit faster than in late May. Also noticed that where the line was once an 1hr wait is about 40 minutes now.

Not sure what you mean on the hint hint.
All of the rapids rides in Orlando have a large drop and there are plenty of families on them. If Legoland can figure out how to do an elevator drop at some of their parks I have faith that SDC could figure it out if they decided to go this route

Not at all against the idea, its a question of "when" as its still a mystery as I do not see it happening within the next 5 years. I also see SDC ripping out FM and AP before thinking about LR.

I suppose with two nearly identical lands opening, one can only hope that after the first couple of months of both being open it will only be as bad as Avatar was the first year. It can still be bad.
We want to go to Cali or Orlando for Universals HHNs in October. The Potter coaster should be open by then down in Orlando. We thought about getting a All Star room just to see if we can snag a FP for one of the rides and then wait for the second. the second option was to do Cali as part of an Hawaii trip either on the front or back end.

I missed this by a year , 1 month and two weeks. Bummer, but It and Efteling are the two parks I want to revisit the most out of the bunch I hit last year.
Themed to Charles Lindbergh with steam punk vibes. Illustrates the way to use a landlocked park
