Title: Coaster Christmas 2007
Post by: shavethewhales on August 13, 2007, 11:31:10 PM
Coaster Christmas is an ACE-sponsored event at SDC involving the usual treats such as ERT and question and answer sessions with SDC staff. I believe this year's event will take place the weekend after Thanksgiving week, though it's probably different this year, and it could change. This is the event that I would re-join ACE for, but I doubt I'll be able to make it.

It would be great if someone on here could go though, as it is not only a fantastic event, but there's so much info shared there that we would all love to hear.

I was going to attend last yead but STL was covered in ice.  If it's warm enough for the coasters to run, chances are I'll be there.

Yeah, you know I was thinking that if I did end up paying $60 for an ACE membership, then the $20 or so for the event, it would suck to not be able to ride anything.

How would one get involved in this?

^I believe that you must either join ACE or know a member and sign up in advance. I'm not sure if other coaster club memberships apply or not.

If I come I can sign people up as my guest.  Or you could join ACE.

Does anyone know what is planned for this year's CC? I know there will be some ERT on Powderkeg and probably TGS or Wildfire, but what else is usually involved? Isn't there some sort of Q&A?

I'm still debating whether I want to go or not. It would really suck if I went ahead and joined ACE just so I could, and then found out I would be busy that weekend. At least the magazines would be nice.

ERT is set for Powderkeg and TGS, with FiTH being a possibility for bad weather.

Ah, I want to get out there so badly, but the only time my brother and his wife can go is the weekend before, so I'd have to make 2 trips on back-to-back weekends with 4 hour drives. Decisions, decisions...

We're doing two weeks back to back as well.  I say go for it, but remember that the mail-in cut off is this Friday (postmarked)

I just don't think I'll get there this year... money issues...

Next year, however, I'm sure I'll be there, and I will be there the weekend after Thanksgiving this year.

$26 for ACE/SDC passholder members is a steal

Yeah, but the gas, hotel bills, and food add up, especially when you live 3+ hours away. That's why I haven't been much this season. Next year, I want to try and go more often, but we'll just see how things work out.

So, we live 5+ and we've been there over 20 times this year

I live 4 hours away and have only been once this season; I'll be there one more time before the park closes for winter and that'll be it.

If I had the money, I definitely would have been there over 20 times, but not everyone can afford that.

It really isn't that expensive if you have an annual passport.  That saves you money on admission, food and other things as well.  Not only that, who says you have to spend the night down there?  4 hours is not that far of a trip to do a down and back if you really wanted to go more often.

With gas prices soaring, and the fact that this year I don't have a season pass, and the fact that I don't have a job (I have difficulties holding down a job due to depression and possibly Social Anxiety Disorder [haven't been diagnosed yet])... It's difficult to make it down there this year. I'm using money from doing a clinical trial to take my Christmas trip there. After the trip, I'll have maybe $50 left to my name.

So, not everyone can afford to go often or pay extra for certain things.

Joy-
You seem like a pretty nice person and you've always been kind- especially on the sometimes brutial worldsoffun.org board.  Are you partisipating in clinical trials just to go to SDC?  I hate to hear that. I'm not trying to meet you face-to-face or anything like that, I'm happily married w/ three kids, but drop me an email at ttabb72@yahoo.com.  I might be able to fix you up with tickets later in December.

Oh, no no no, I'm not participating in the trial just to go to SDC; I'm going for my depression (and I'm so excited, 'cause it's really working! I can't wait 'til it ends up on the market)... Getting money from the trial was icing on the cake.

I'd actually wanted to save the money for a convention I want to go to in 2009, but decided I'd rather take a trip to SDC for Christmas, since last year's Christmas trip was a real dud (due to who I was with, not because of SDC or anything).

I really do appreciate your offer, though. Thankfully, the two friends I'm going with already have season passes, and I got a BAF from someone on the 1Branson board who didn't need it (we do a lot of BAF trading on that board, since not everyone can use their BAFs when they're valid).

In case you needed more of a reason to go to Coaster Christmas.  GMA (Good Morning America) will be taping the weather LIVE from SDC 6am to 7am.  If you bring an unwrapped toy you can be part of the audience and receive a FREE ticket to the park to use anytime during December. First 500 people to arrive are allowed to attend and get the ticket!!!

Looks like you guys had an amazing time - I'm kicking myself for not making it there, but I'm sure I will next year.

Schlitterbahn will be one of the presenters next year -- we're also trying to get Six Flags to come down, but they are being rather Beotchy about it
