Title: Flooded Mine Changes!
Post by: CrazyScarecrow on December 06, 2013, 11:10:51 AM
Last weekend I was down at a the City and on my ride of the Flooded Mine I noticed various figures inside the ride had changed places in the ride and many were taken out to be replaced by new one. I don't have any pictures of it, but ones that got changed were the Warden at the beginning, the one cranking that pump around the beginning, the guy that spit out water, those characters on top that mine train at the beginning, and the buzz saw guys around the middle of the ride. I just thought I'd report this on the site since it seems like no one else did.

Also I have been reading this site for years. I have loved all the information being put on it. It's where I learned most of my SDC knowledge.

Welcome Scarecrow! I am eager to see what has changed when I am there around Christmas!

Thanks for the info. From time to time they change out the dummies as things wear out. Perhaps that is what they were doing.

Thanks Rube!   :)

A lot of the faces look brand new and some of them weren't even working like they usually do (the buzz saw guys). I think they are finally refurbishing the rides character. I am kinda disappointed about it. I always liked the worn down look of dummies. Wonder if they will being doing more changes in the future for the ride and Fire in the Hole since nothing major has been announced for next year except for that 'Murica festival.

I welcome the refurbishing, but please don't change the faces and characteristics. The original look of the rides is something you don't see anywhere else.

In that case, let's remove the guns and targets.  They are huge detractors from the original ride.  I don't even bother with the guns anymore, and they don't even work anyway.

I still want the guns and targets in there mainly because those have been part of the ride since I was a kid though it probably wouldn't matter much. I always liked looking around and trying to find out how all the dummies worked in the ride anyway and spotting all the gags.

Not going to lie, would love a complete refurb of both FITH and FM much like what was done with the Log Ride at KBF.

I agree Swoosh.  Ive never been to Knotts Berry Farm, but I would like to see FITH and FM get a little facelift.  I would like to see our own log ride get a facelift also.  How bout Grandaddys place?  I think 2014 should be all about refurbs around the park.

My fear about any refurb on the older attractions is the possiblity of taking out the characteristics that make them special.

That did not happen with the KBF log ride.  If the right people are behind it then it should not be a problem

More water effects to sell the Flooding aspect would be nice.

I hope that things aren't too different... I guess I'll get to see for myself soon. I do wish they would remove the guns (and this is coming from someone who has grown up with it that way), they hardly ever work.

I don't like them either. I'd rather just look around at the scenery. Have you ever noticed the smell in there? That water on concrete smell? It's almost as good as the smell of asphalt!  Hubs thinks I'm nuts when I mention it. LoL!

I know it well Gilligan...I think the same thing about the musty smell in Lost River...it is a very memory inducing smell!

That is like one of my favorite things about the Flooded Mine!

I would love to see the rockslide return as well as the man in the bottle.   They used to have a moonshine type gallon glass jar with a projection of a small prisoner in the bottle singing the miners tune, goldfish and all. If I am not mistaken it was exiting the  I miss some of the old gags.  It would be great to see the projection faces return as well.
I miss the old days......

I grew up in the era of "no guns" (man in the bottle, rock slide, runaway saw blade), etc.   I was old enough to be nostalgic when they put the guns in. I was right on the cusp of thinking it was cool to embrace new trends, and still a little repulsed.

I've grown to appreciate the gun era, but also feel that it's time to give the old gal a facelift.

We noticed new heads on the characters, this year.

Do the heads have the same look as the old ones?

Not exactly.  They look far too clean for the setting, and some may even resemble real people.  The don't bother me, but they are a little paper-machete-like for me.

We can not be pleased! ;D

It would be better if the faces were less static and more realistic.  Even putting some projected faces on blank heads would be great - with voices that can be heard.

The reason they moved away from the projectors that put faces on some of the dummies is because the humidity always caused the electronics to break down. I remember maintenance guys constantly repairing projectors, replacing tapes, and so on...of course, computers would not fare well in the environment, either, they would need to place computers in a heated/air conditioned space. No matter what electronic technology used, the humidity creates havoc! Ha!

I remember all of that, but with today's tech, it shouldn't be a prob.

I'm glad to hear they're putting work into the attraction. Sometimes we need to sit back and know that we'll never completely happy until we jump in there and do it ourselves  ;)

On Thursday I noticed how good the dummies in the mine were looking.  I really liked the heads they have in there now.  It makes FitH look even worse now (That ride desperately needs some love and attention).
