Title: Where is Rube?
Post by: rubedugans on December 29, 2011, 04:25:20 PM
You might find that you are asking yourself this in the next few months...and this should clear it up!

It has been one of those years. I am trying to think about where another year has gone, and boy have I been busy! I have been trying to keep up with my Wayback thread, as well as the Where in the city game. I know this is Announcements, but I firstly want to apologize for the change in the amount of my activity as of lately.

My main reason for the lack of activity on the site has been that my wife and I have added to the SDC fanbase. Next season I will be finding out how strollers fit onto trams, how to fight crowds and the elements with a baby, and how the park feels while showing my daughter for the first time. We welcomed our first child in October, and man has it been a busy couple of weeks!

I have also begun a new position teaching a new class at school (one that involves extensive amounts of planning to help students reach their potential) and this has taken a great amount of my time. Also I took a new position at school as the Information Web Specialist (Webmaster) which entails a lot of work building the full site by Jan. 3, 2012. One semester on top of the other stuff was barely enough time (I just finished it this afternoon!).

I have 2 big artworks (portraits) to begin this winter, and I am finishing up another for a pretty big client. I am working with Rich on the QSCR logos and designs, and I have 2-3 book ideas to sort out details on, as well as a few bucket list things I would like to begin.

The next few months I will be continuing to learn to be a Daddy while trying to work on some of my other wants/ needs. I might not be too active Jan-Mar, but I plan on resuming my duties, and pages when the season starts in 2012. I will have my email updates active, and if anything comes up that I want to add to, I will jump on in! If you need my send me a message!

Strollers suck getting on and off the trams and usually hold things up a bit. And if you are like my husband you will find this highly embaressing.  ::) It will be so great to see a new face at the City. If you need anything give us a hollar. Its what friends are for!!

Well congratulations Rube and family! You will find now that a child has joined the family that you will have less and less time for some of your pet projects and plans. However, you are a talented and hard working guy, so I know you will be able to fit some time in as  you can. Best to you all!

Congrats Rube! That is indeed great news and a true blessing to you as well as a very legitimate excuse for some absenteeism.

The smaller strollers that fold up (usually without a roof) are not big deal on the trams, the larger ones are. I have from time to time rented one from the park, I think it's around $12, to avoid the hassle. They are very nice, roll very well have a "convertible" top that can be up or down as well as pockets that our mugs fit in perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised however if you didn't already have one of these somewhere in your collection.  ;D

May God bless you and your family as you enter this new stage of life.

Awesome, congrats rube! Don't wear yourself out, I've been witnessing first hand how much work it takes to raise an infant from my new nephew recently. I don't envy the effort it takes, but obviously it pays off!

Yeah it should be an adventure. 31 yrs ago my parents started a yearly pilgrimage to SDC with my sister and I, and I will be doing the same for my little girl, even if my SDC collection was demoted to the basement seeing that we needed to create a nursery for her!

Well Larson I think now I need to get a hold of one of the current or even retired strollers for my collection huh?

Congratulations Rube!  Our son was born in March of 1996 and his first trip was in July of '96.  His first ride was the Flooded Mine and he still likes it.  Of course now he outshoots me so that's not as much fun.  ;)

Congrats rube,  my wife and I had our first child (a boy) in November and I can't wait to take him to SDC for the first time next October.  I admire your ability to do so much with this site and in your personal life.  With a new baby in the house I can't seem to do much besides go to work, come home, sleep and then start it all over again.  If "where in the city" or "wayback machine" were up to me we'd get maybe 3 or 4 updates per year....thanks for all your hard work and enjoy the next few months.  We'll see you back here when the city opens in 2012!

Congratulations, Rube! I understand how life gets so busy and I don't even have kids! College is keeping me extremely busy. It's hard to fit in everything that I want to do!!

Alright baby steps, no need to go back into SDCFan rehab for doing too much too soon, but I plan on having a presence in the site more and mroe a the season begins. Baby raising, and work-school have been crazy, and tiring, but rewarding. Now my Spring sports should be starting competing here in about a week, so that is just another thing to get me busy. Gotta pay all these hospital bills somehow!

I have still continues adding when I could to all my collection, with the holidays and B-Day money I have picked up some gems of SDC/ Ozark items and am excited to get them scanned sometime.

Glad to be back!

Where’s Rube? Hey, I found him! He’s right here, with the rest of us um, “passionate” folks.  ;)

It's good to have your expertise, and database of information around. However, I know first hand how life sometimes gets in our way. This week is my first time back since November. It's open season at Silver Dollar City again! ;D

Yah we'll be jumping in head first soon, it is looking like our spring break trip is a go, now just worrying about the first night in a pack and play without the monitor...ahh the joys of parenthood, If you meet up with me and have met me before don't be suprised that I have gone totally gray from worrying over the past year! I know, I know...it only gets worse, and it will never stop.

Yes, but in this case the gray, and stress is totally worth it! You all are going to have a great trip to Silver Dollar City this year as a complete family. :)

Rube, if you're talking about a regular baby monitor, just bring it along with everything else.  I brought the Angel monitor when I took my youngest for the first time at four months.  I was so paranoid!  I even had to cut a little hole in the Pack and Play netting for the cord to go through.  But, I slept pretty well.  As well as the mother of a four-month-old can!

Yes the Angel monitor has been just that...an angel. We will see what we can do to rig it to the pack and play.

Well yes I revived my old thread seeing that I have been absent for some time from the site.

Through mysterious medical issues, a now 1yr old daughter, family trips to Denver/ Breckenridge CO, San Diego, LA, family issues, art commissions, work, and coaching I rarely get much time to sleep let alone post anything on here! I wish I had more hours in the day. Also with not being at SDC since June, I am going through withdrawl from the city. I actually spent more time at WDL in 2 days than I have at SDC all year...scary isn't it?

I am hopefully going to race the 5K Nov 9, but other than that who knows if I will make it back this season. Keep posting...I might not reply, but I am reading them usually at stop lights on my phone, or while feeding a bottle to my kiddo.

Yes back to my old thread here over 2 yrs. later.

It has been a busy and rewarding year here for our family.
we sold our house, and built a new one
I survived 6+ months with my in laws
I started my new position in my school as a full time social studies teacher ( from being a full time gifted teacher, before that an art teacher - yes I have that many degrees!!!)
I was showcased in the SDC spot on the GAC reality show as the park expert

And...today we brought our newborn son home home from the hospital

That being said, life has now doubled the children in my house, as well as the tasks and jobs I have to do around the house to keep it running smoothly, and to be the Dad I want to be.

I will be even more rare on the sites in the upcoming months as ...well...I'll be busy!

Hopefully we'll make it out a few times this spring and summer to the park, and be able to spend time as a family of 4 at the park.

Feel free to message me, or keep me up on the happenings, I'll lurk as time allows, but feel free to send me PM's as needed!

What a crazy pile of excuses, rube!  If you don't like us anymore, just come out and say it.  Is it something we did?  We can change.  Really, just tell us what to do, and we can do it. :'(

That is what having a family and career does...keeps you from the little fun things you could do in spare time, because now, he and his wife don't have spare time! Ha!
